Spooky Month edition (disclaimer: article contains no spookiness)
Thanks once again to everyone keeping our lights on, and our pantries full of Mini Cheddars, by being an RPS Supporter. The latest batch of subscription stats came in the other day and it’s been heartwarming, and more than a little humbling, to see new Supporters keep showing up. Rest assured that your backing does not go unappreciated, nor uninvested around the site.
To whit, we’ve been commissioning a particularly strong assortment of freelance-scribed pieces (for all readers), some of which – including Amity Gilmour’s fun history lesson on the MicroSoft SideWinder and Kaile 'No Escape' Hultner’s Control Resonant analysis – are already live. It’s been a pleasure to have Ashley Schofield joining us for Tuesday newshounding too, along with RPS regular Oisin. And, of course, we’re still bringing exclusive features to Premium Supporters twice every week. Like these ones, from throughout October:
RPS Premium Supporter rewards for October 2026
Do modern gaming mice have too many buttons? This is not the question Julian asks here, but if it takes two years to learn what they all do, it might be a "yes".
Ollie calls for aid, after his to-play list of desired games grows too unwieldy for one guides editor to prune alone.
I get, probably, a bit too emotional after running out of Big Walk to play. Am still right though.
What goes into the perfect screenshot? I’ll let you know, if I ever manage one, but I argue we don’t yet have an idea tool for the job.
Scout Report: Din's Champion churns the Soldak formula into a hazardously compelling mess
Sin goes underground in Din’s Champion (think Terraria if it were a fantasy RPG) and does not emerge for some time.
Holiday Snaps But For Videogames (Hopefully Not Final Title)
Sorry Edwin, title’s stuck now. Though there is a gag in here that extracted from me the sharpest, loudest, most office-annoying laugh of anything we've published this month. Classic Smythe.
Who in Rapture thought that hacking was anything like plumbing?
Julian takes an un-fond look back at BioShock’s watery hacking puzzle.
Mark, drunk-driving with power after piloting the big rigs of American Truck Simulator, tries to get to grips with something more agile.
Julian, officially our October Supporters’ top scorer, reflects on his first year in the RPS Treehouse, and shares a little more on our plans, hopes, and dreams for the future.
Until next month! As in, the end of it. And if you like the look of these works but aren't yet an RPS Supporter, why, were did this signup page link come from?
