With Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, the summer of games comes to a close. Join Mr. Video Games himself, Geoff Keighley, on August 19th at 2PM ET as he emcees the last big video game livestream event before the kids go back to school and the adults break out the Halloween decorations.
We already know that we can expect news of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Ghost of Yōtei, Outer Worlds 2, and more. Outside of video games, we might also get a new trailer for Fallout season two and maybe an update on the Ghost of Tsushima movie. And out of all the video game events of the last few years, this one might actually, truly, be the one where we get actual news of a release date for Hollow Knight: Silksong. There will be a playable demo on the Gamescom floor, which has to mean something, right?
Follow along below for all of our coverage of the news and announcements from Opening Night Live 2025.
It’s going to be a busy fall for shooters.
First there’s Battlefield 6 launching on October 10th, and now we have news that the next Call of Duty is launching on November 14th. Here’s your first brief look at Black Ops 7 gameplay, which has something of an Inception vibe for the campaign mode.
“Silksong is real.”
The game is “100 percent” launching in 2025, according to Geoff Keighley at Opening Night Live. Onstage, he showed off some brief footage of the game. More news about the game is coming on Thursday.
Dotemu’s new fantasy beat ’em launches on October 9th.
Absolum is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4. I’m looking forward to this one.
Skate on a train.
Or as a train, rather. That’s the premise of the slick-looking Denshattack! which combines the beauty of the Japanese rail system with, uh, skateboarding? I’m not really sure what’s going on but it looks fun, and launches next year.
Dotemu is making a Battlestar Galactica game.
In partnership with indie studio Alt Shift, Dotemu is working on Battlestar Galactica: Scattered Hopes, a “story-rich tactical roguelite” set in the universe of the cult classic sci-fi series. It’s launching on Steam in early 2026.
