Strange Alien Metal or SAM Ores have found a new purpose after the release of the Satisfactory 1.0 update and is now quite a useful resource during the late-game phase in your journey.
Unlike other ores such as Iron or Copper, SAM is one of the rarest resources to find in Satisfactory. These resources can be found in some of the starting regions in the game, which could help you get them faster.
Without further ado, here are all the SAM Ore locations in Satisfactory.
How many types of SAM Ores are there?
In Satisfactory 1.0, SAM Ores appear in three rarities:
- Pure
- Normal
- Impure
Pure SAM Ore gives you the best yield, while Impure gives you the worst, so always try to find Pure SAM Ores when you can. Prioritize Normal SAM Ore above Impure Sam Ore, as well.

Grass Fields

Rocky Desert

Northern Forest

Dune Desert

How to mine SAM Ores in Satisfactory 1.0
Mining SAM Ores is quite simple. All you need to do is set up a Miner at the locations we have listed above.
You may also tame a Lizard Doggo as they will fetch you these rare resources occasionally.
How to use SAM Ores in Satisfactory?
SAM Ores are useless in their native state and you’ll have to convert them to Reanimated SAM at your Constructor or Crafting Bench first.
You’ll need 4 SAM Ore for each Reanimated SAM. Then you’ll need to convert this into SAM Fluctuators, which are used to craft Portals and Converters. You’ll need 10 Reanimated SAM to unlock SAM Fluctuators, and then you’ll need the following to craft one SAM Fluctuator:
- 6 x Reanimated SAM
- 3 x Steel Pipe
- 5 x Wire
What are SAM Ores used for in Satisfactory?
Once you’ve converted your SAM Ores into SAM Fluctuators, you can use them for to construct the following items:
- Alien Power Matrix
- Alien Power Augmenter
- Converter
- Dimensional Depot Uploader
- Main Portal
- Satellite Portal
