Prime Video's video game adaptation catalog is officially growing, with five exciting projects in development. In recent years, Prime Video has proven to be a safe haven for video game adaptations. For years, video game shows and movies were a subgenre that never really worked, for a variety of reasons. That said, recent years have marked a notable improvement in these adaptations, especially with the streaming era allowing for TV shows to adapt huge worlds with adequate time, budgets, and fidelity.

This has led to many upcoming video game shows being produced, both by Prime Video and its streaming competitors. Speaking strictly about the former, Prime Video has been the home of shows like Secret Level, Fallout, and Like a Dragon: Yakuza, two of which are set to return soon. Fallout is one of the streaming service's most popular shows of all time, with season 3 set to be released in 2027. Although not quite as big as Fallout, Secret Level was a success in its own right, with season 2 also in production to be released next year.

Whether it be a Prime Video binge session or a drawn-out adventure into a video game world in TV format, the streaming service has a good selection available right now. What is even more exciting, though, is how that selection is set to expand. In the next few years, Prime Video is set to release several new video game adaptations, some of which are based on some of the most popular, well-received games of all time. With that in mind, here is every confirmed upcoming video game adaptation to expect on Prime Video before 2030.

5 Tomb Raider

First look at Sophie Turner as Lara Croft in Tomb Raider

Tomb Raider is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable video game franchises in history, and Prime Video is the next studio to take a crack at it. Starring Game of Thrones' Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, Tomb Raider was announced in 2023 and is in development by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Chad Hodge joins Waller-Bridge as co-showrunner, with Tomb Raider having filmed throughout 2026. Little has been revealed about the show beyond this information thus far, but it is expected to be released in late 2027 or early 2028.

Joining Turner in the cast are some big names, such as Sigourney Weaver and Jason Isaacs. Weaver will play Evelyn Wallis, described as someone looking to exploit Lara Croft's talents. Isaacs, meanwhile, plays Atlas DeMornay, Lara's uncle and a known video game character. With Isaacs having confirmed he finished filming months ago, likely meaning the summer of 2026, more information about Prime Video's anticipated Tomb Raider series should be expected soon.

4 Life Is Strange

Life is Strange

Life Is Strange is another incredibly popular video game, though not quite with the same lasting legacy as Tomb Raider. Nonetheless, it caused great excitement when a series adapting the game was ordered by Prime Video in 2025. Charlie Covell, the creator of The End of the F***ing World and Netflix's Kaos, was attached as showrunner shortly after, as was a writing, directing, and acting team. Filming began in June 2026 and wrapped in October of that year, meaning information should be available soon about a possible 2027 or 2028 release date.

Concerning its story, Life Is Strange's premise will be very similar to the original game. The show will follow Max Caulfield, played by Tatum Grace Hopkins, a young photographer who discovers that she has the ability to rewind time. Amidst her struggles to control this power, Max teams up with her friend Chloe to solve the mysterious disappearance of the latter's friend, Rachel, leading to dark discoveries about their town. The original game won several awards upon its release and is now considered one of the greatest video games ever made. Naturally, Prime Video's adaptation of such a project has a lot of pressure and excitement behind it.

3 God of War

Another game cited as one of the best of its generation is God of War, putting a similar amount of pressure on Prime Video's upcoming adaptation. Released in 2018, God of War was a soft reboot of the franchise of the same name. Following a trilogy of games set in the world of Greek mythology and focusing on Kratos, a vengeful god of war, the 2018 game moved the central character to a Norse mythology-infused world, giving him a much deeper, emotional story than any of its predecessors did.

This, along with the incredibly cinematic nature of the game, led many to believe it would work as a TV show. Evidently, Prime Video agreed. First announced in 2022, God of War went through a troubled development until 2024, when Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and AppleTV's For All Mankind, was hired as showrunner, writer, and executive producer of the series. Production then began on two seasons, which began shooting in February 2026 with Ryan Hurst in the titular role.

However, in June 2026, Hurst suffered a serious injury on set, tearing his bicep. Due to the extensive recovery period needed and the rapid aging of Hurst's co-star, Callum Vinson, the role was recast, with Dave Bautista taking on the duties of Kratos. Filming resumed in October 2026, meaning an early 2028 release date is likely. God of War will adapt the story of the 2018 game; Kratos, now father to a young son named Atreus (Vinson), travels to the highest peak in the Nine Realms to scatter the ashes of his wife, Atreus' mother.

2 Wolfenstein

Wolfenstein was announced to be in development by Prime Video in 2025. Patrick Somerville, who served as a writer on the acclaimed HBO series The Leftovers, was hired as showrunner. Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, both of whom worked on Prime Video's Fallout adaptation, also joined as executive producers. A premise, production date, and casting information are yet to be revealed by Prime Video, meaning the series is likely a long way off, but it will likely adapt the alternate-history setting of the games in which the Nazis won World War II.

1 Mass Effect

The final major video game adaptation in the works at Prime Video is Mass Effect. Mass Effect is one of the most popular role-playing franchises of all time, especially the original trilogy of games. For a while, various studios have attempted to adapt the games into either a series of movies or a TV show, but it seems Prime Video has finally managed to get one such attempt off the ground. In 2025, it was announced that a Mass Effect series was in development, with Doug Jung serving as showrunner.

Jung has previously worked on shows like Mindhunter and Chief of War, the latter of which he served as showrunner and head writer. Thus far, no casting or production announcements have been made, though it was confirmed in October 2026 that Mass Effect was still in development despite the shutdown of the company responsible for creating the games, BioWare. As of right now, all that is known about Prime Video's Mass Effect show is that it will be an original story set within the continuity of the games, following the success of Fallout's similar story format.
