Alison Hammond faces new blow as Channel 4's Your Song 'looks set to be axed' months after her BBC show Big Weekender is 'shelved'

Alison Hammond's Channel 4 show, Your Song, could be axed, according to reports, after viewers complained it was too similar to The Piano. 

The presenter, 51, fronted the programme which followed people performing personal songs on a pop-up stage, with both Sam Ryder  and Paloma Faith acting as mentors.

The series ended in May with Chantel winning and performing on stage at London's Hackney Empire.

But now bosses are said to be considering shelving the programme after just one series due to poor viewing figures. 

According to reports, the launch episode saw 755,000 tune in, but it had fallen to 380,000 for the final. 

It comes months after reports Alison's BBC One show, Big Weekender, had also been axed. 

A TV insider told The Sun: 'Officially no decision has been taken on the future of the show, but behind the scenes, those involved in the programme are talking about it not making it to a second series.

'Tough decisions are being made about the cost of making a show compared to the ratings it enjoys and Your Song's viewing figures didn't quite match up to the cost of the project.

'Having a big name host and a big production company behind it meant it wasn't cheap to make and they need to see a return on the investment.' 

The Daily Mail has contacted Alison's representatives for comment. Channel 4 told the Daily Mail no decision has yet been made about Your Song's future. 

Alison still has a busy schedule fronting This Morning and presenting For the Love of Dogs, Great British Bake Off and ITV's Name That Tune.

However Your Song received poor reviews from critics and viewers.

Soon into Your Song's launch, viewers noted similarities to fellow Channel 4 show, The Piano.

Fronted by Claudia Winkleman and featuring singer Mika, The Piano likewise features amateur musicians, who, as the title suggests, perform pieces on a piano.

Taking to X, one viewer wrote: 'So new #YourSong is just the amazing #Piano series but without the piano??? 

'Think I'd rather have The Piano as used to host and judges etc....but will give this a go ..let's see.'

Another penned: 'This is giving a cross between The Voice and the Piano. #YourSong.'

While a third remarked: '#YourSong I watched all of The Piano episodes. Not sure I'll stick with this though but I'll see what the first few singers are like..'

However, other viewers expressed their enjoyment of Your Song, as one commented: 'What a performance from Elliott.'

Another shared: 'The singers on this are quite good tbf'.

The Daily Mail's TV critic Christopher Stevens awarded Your Song a two-star review.

He wrote: 'This entire format is not likely to leave many people feeling better, neither the performers nor the viewers. 

'Modelled on Channel 4's surprise success The Piano, it invites ordinary people to tell us a story that jerks at our heartstrings, before belting out a tune.

'In place of Claudia Winkleman as presenter, Your Song is hosted by Alison Hammond, whose job is simply to greet each singer and send them on stage with a few words of encouragement.

'But unlike The Piano, where the instrument is plonked in a railway station or a shopping mall, Your Song can't make any pretense at spontaneity.'
