Alison Brie-Led Witness Protection Pilot Not Moving Forward At FX

EXCLUSIVEFX is not proceeding with its Alison Brie-led witness protection project.

The network has decided not to pick up the Untitled Witness Protection pilot to series, which came from Hannah Fidell and Gina Welch.

The project originated from David Chase but The Sopranos creator stepped back last year with Fidell and Welch developing a contemporary take on Chase’s un-produced script.

It centered around a violent confrontation that drives a high-end D.C. madam to turn on her partner and enter witness protection in seaside Maine with her adolescent daughter.

Brie boarded the pilot last July and starred in the pilot alongside Pablo Schreiber, Zoë Chao, Jamie Neumann, Aidan Gillen, Ashley Thomas and Finn Wittrock.

Fidell and Welch wrote, exec produced and serve as co-showrunners on the project. Fidell directed the pilot and Nicole Lambert executive produced for Chase’s Riverain Pictures.

The pilot was one of a number of drama pilots that FX had ordered over the last twelve months.

These included a Snowfall spinoff starring original cast members Gail Bean and Isaiah John, Seven Sisters, a family drama starring Elizabeth Olsen, Cristin Milioti and J. Smith-Cameron, and Disinherited from Better Call Saul co-creator Peter Gould, starring Victoria Pedretti and Kiera Allen.

All three were picked up to series. FX was moved to pilot these shows after a number of shows including Snowfall, Mayans M.C. and The Old Man ended.

On the comedy side, Deadline understands that Movers, a workplace comedy pilot from Reno 911!’s Robert Ben Garant and Cathy Shim, is also not proceeding at the network, although that decision is believed to have happened some time ago.

It is, however, still working on Young Frankenstein, a series based on Mel Brooks’ classic comedy from the team behind What We Do In The Shadows.
