Over the years, there have been several excellent games released under the Alien banner, from the OG Alien on Atari to Alien Trilogy on the PS1 to modern hits like Alien: Isolation—which just got a long-awaited sequel announcement—and countless other titles in between. While the Alien franchise has never received a hugely successful RPG in video game format, Free League's iconic 2019 Alien: The Roleplaying Game offers the definitive tabletop RPG experience and is widely regarded as one of the best Alien experiences in gaming.
Now, thanks to a brand-new initiative from Free League, fans of Alien: The Roleplaying Game have a completely new experience on offer that's available to check out right now.
Alien Officially Returns In Free League Unbound
Earlier this month, Free League launched Early Access for a new initiative called Free League Unbound, its new first-party digital platform for tabletop RPGs, and specifically for Alien: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition, which is among the first four games available.
Developed by creators of D&D Beyond, Unbound brings official game content and searchable rules together across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices. Early Access currently includes a digital reader and game compendia for ALIEN: The Roleplaying Game Evolved Edition, The One Ring, Coriolis: The Great Dark, and Invincible – Superhero Roleplaying, four of Free League's most popular games.
Character creation and progression tools are also in development, with Free League planning to expand Unbound with additional games and features in the months ahead. It's an exciting new way to experience the Alien RPG, and will give players a more localized and streamlined way to enjoy the game. Searchable rules and character creation in particular are massive draws to digital TTRPG platforms like D&D Beyond, and Unbound is sure to bring more players into the fold.
Alien: The Roleplaying Game Is A Must-Play
Alien: The Roleplaying Game is beloved for capturing the tense brutality and essence of the Alien universe, while also giving players the freedom to create their own stories within it. Its stress and panic mechanics make encounters unpredictable as characters are pushed to their limits, while its Cinematic and Campaign modes accommodate both intense one-off scenarios and longer adventures.
Free League's Alien RPG gives players a detailed recreation of the franchise's retro-futuristic world, and it's an especially authentic Alien experience unlike anything else out there. The Evolved Edition, which is the version on Unbound at the moment, builds on the acclaimed base game with refined stealth, stress, panic, and combat mechanics, alongside new life-path character creation and expanded campaign tools.
It also introduces solo play, zero-gravity rules, and content inspired by Alien: Romulus, while remaining fully compatible with previously released material. If you haven't had a chance to check out Alien: The Roleplaying Game yet, now is the perfect time to dive in thanks to Free League's new Unbound digital platform.
