Work has begun on the second season of FX's sci-fi horror series

One of the best shows of 2025 was Alien: Earth, Noah Hawley's sci-fi horror series set in the legendary universe launched by Ridley Scott's 1979 masterpiece. Following positive reactions from critics and audiences, Disney renewed the show for a second season on Nov. 11, 2025. Since then, there has been some casting news but little information on when production would begin. That has finally changed.
FX posted a short video to its official Instagram account on Sept. 3, announcing that production on season 2 has begun. The video is only about ten seconds and shows some of the behind-the-scenes action on set. Production on season 1 took roughly five months, with a mid-production break due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. If season 2 follows a similar schedule, it should finish production in early 2027.
Who is in Alien: Earth season 2?
Creator Noah Hawley is returning as showrunner alongside most of the cast, led by Sydney Chandler as Wendy. Season 2 will also add Peter Dinklage, Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn. Hawley previously worked with Spruell on Fargo, while Dinklage and Flynn starred alongside each other in Game of Thrones.
It is a good time to be an Alien fan right now. In addition to Alien: Earth Season 2, there are at least two other major projects in the works. The 2014 game Alien: Isolation is finally getting a sequel, and it looks even scarier than the original. The game will take place on an Earth-like colony and will follow a new protagonist who is not Amanda Ripley, according to Sega.
On the movie front, the man who created the series is getting back in the director's chair. At the end of August, Ridley Scott officially announced that he is working on a new movie. It will be another prequel film, following Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, starring Michael Fassbender's character, David. This announcement also suggested that Scott has taken back the franchise following 2024's Alien: Romulus, directed by Fede Álvarez. That film performed remarkably well at the box office, but the likelihood of a sequel may be low with Scott back in charge.
