U.K.-France sales outfit Alief has boarded world sales rights to “Lunar Sway,” the sophomore feature from Canadian writer-director Nick Butler.

The film stars Noah Parker (“In Cold Light,” “Who by Fire”) and Liza Weil (“How to Get Away With Murder,” “The Cleaning Lady”) in the story of Cliff, an unconventional young man navigating the search for connection. When his estranged birth mother Marg arrives unexpectedly, the two form a quick bond, but her hidden past and a vengeful pursuer threaten their newfound relationship.

The supporting cast includes Kaden Connors (“Heated Rivalry”), Grace Glowicki (“Dead Lover”) and Douglas Smith (“Horizon: An American Saga”).

Butler said the film explores outsiders existing on society’s margins. “This is a movie about misfits living on the fringe, and I hope that audiences will see themselves reflected in them and the universal theme of looking for love in all the wrong places,” he said. “Alief is the right partner to help us reach the audiences this film will connect with.”

Alief partner Miguel Govea said the decision to board the project came easily. “At Alief, we want to work with filmmakers telling impactful stories, so we can help bring them to the forefront,” Govea said. “‘Lunar Sway’ is a story of people struggling to find a connection, and nothing brings people together like the communal experience of seeing a relatable story play out on the big screen.”

Alief president Brett Walker added: “‘Lunar Sway’ is a fun ride. A tale of self-discovery, resilience, and the unexpected roads that lead us back to ourselves, anchored by the mesmerizing performances of leads Liza Weil and Noah Parker. We are delighted to be representing the film.”

The project is produced by Lucas Meeuse and Jennifer Wrede through Butler’s Cloudy Pictures Inc. Production took place in British Columbia’s Thompson-Nicola region with financial backing from Telefilm Canada and the Canada Council For The Arts.

Alief is launching sales at Berlin’s European Film Market as the film seeks its world premiere. Butler’s debut feature “The Legacy of Cloudy Falls” received a theatrical and VOD release from Filmoption International in 2024.
