20th Century Studios is celebrating the 10th anniversary of Alejandro Gonález Iñárritu’s The Revenant with a return to theaters.
Imax is set to screen the Oscar-winning film on Thursday, February 26, and Sunday, March 1. The film will also be released internationally in the U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, and Mexico.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy starred in the 2015 film, which grossed over $532M worldwide. The film went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Actor for DiCaprio, Best Director for Iñárritu, and Best Cinematography for Emmanuel Lubezki.
The re-release of The Revenant comes following DiCaprio’s Oscar nomination for One Battle After Another.
The Revenant was written by Mark L. Smith and was based in part on Michael Punke’s 2002 novel of the same name. Inspired by real events, the film tells the story of a frontiersman in the 1800s who is left for dead and must survive a brutal winter in the wilderness before returning to avenge his son’s death.
DiCaprio and Hardy’s co-stars also included Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter, Forrest Goodluck, Paul Anderson, Kristoffer Joner, Duane Howard, Melaw Nakehk’o, Arthur Redcloud, Lukas Haas, Brendan Fletcher, Tom Guiry, Grace Dove, and Fabrice Adde.
The Revenant was produced by Steve Golin, Alejandro G. Iñárritu, Arnon Milchan, and Mary Parent.
Additionally, to celebrate the film’s 10th anniversary, the book The Making of The Revenant is set to be released, offering an in-depth account of the film’s demanding production, creative vision, and elemental brutality, brought to life through extensive behind-the-scenes photography and commentary—an essential collector’s piece celebrating one of modern cinema’s most uncompromising achievements.
