Alan Ritchson's New R-Rated Revenge Thriller Earns Top 10 Rotten Tomatoes Audience Score

The celebrated action star has one of the busiest schedules, with 2026 consisting of four movies, Reacher season 4, and its spinoff, Neagley. That demanding slate began with Netflix's sci-fi thriller War Machine, which turned into one of Ritchson's most successful movies yet. It recently landed on the streamer's most-watched movies of all time at #9, and now a sequel is in development. With just a little less than a year left, the actor's good fortune is only getting better with his newest thriller, Motor City.

Ritchson's latest movie earned a solid 66% on Rotten Tomatoes after its world premiere at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. Nearly a year later, the new thriller finally landed in theaters in July 2026, with the audience score debuting at a similar 65%. It's worth noting that just over 50 verified ratings were calculated, so it may change as more get added. Nevertheless, the reception for Motor City continues Ritchson's strong streak in 2026.

In fact, it's enough to join Ritchson's highest-ranked audience score at #7, behind Lazer Team (69%), Office Uprising (82%), and Fast X (84%). Meanwhile, the current record-holder is Ordinary Angels (99%), which is interestingly one of his few non-action movies, and is followed by The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare (91%).

Motor City reviews are generally positive, with praise for its stylistic revenge story, brutally violent action, and great '70s soundtrack. The strong performances also overcome the movie's near-silent gimmick, especially Ben Foster's standout antagonistic role and Ritchson's raw gravitas as his protagonist seeks revenge. However, the non-verbal approach is the most polarizing aspect, with some appreciating the experiment, while others wanted more innovation.

Ritchson's humble beginnings include projects like Smallville, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Blue Mountain State, but his titular portrayal in Prime Video's hit series, Reacher, put him on the map as an action star. In Motor City, John Miller (Ritchson) is ruined and seeks revenge after getting framed for a crime in retaliation for falling in love with a local gangster's girlfriend in 1970s Detroit. The movie is directed by Potsy Ponciroli and written by St. John, while the remaining cast features Pablo Schreiber, Lionel Boyce, and Shailene Woodley.
