Alan Ritchson is one of the biggest names on Prime Video's charts right now, as a hit action movie starring the actor has resurged on streaming at the perfect time. Ritchson became one of the main players at the streamer after leading the action thriller series Reacher. Four seasons in, the show, which is based on Lee Child's successful series of Jack Reacher novels, continues as strong as ever. Reacher season 5 is on the way, and Ritchson is likely to stay on Prime Video for quite a few years after that as more Jack Reacher books get adapted.
That said, Ritchson's career has taken him to different roles beyond just leading Prime Video's Reacher in recent years. Some of those sent the actor to the big screen, like Guy Ritchie's The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, while others became global streaming sensations, be it on Prime Video or elsewhere. When it comes to the latter, Ritchson led the 10th most-watched Netflix movie of all time earlier this year, the sci-fi thriller War Machine. As for Prime Video's original movies, the Reacher star starred in the action comedy Playdate, which has now resurged on Prime Video nearly a year after its release.
Playdate Is Repeating Its Prime Video Success Almost 1 Year Later
At the time of writing, Playdate is the 10th most-watched movie on Prime Video in the United States. The action comedy starring Ritchson returned to the streamer's nationwide chart this Tuesday, September 8. Playdate had been absent from the US' Top 10 Movies Chart for months. The movie originally arrived on Prime Video on November 12, 2025. As such, it has now found a second wind on the streaming service in the United States just a couple of months short of its one-year anniversary. The film serves as a buddy action comedy with Kevin James opposite Ritchson.
The Reacher star gives life to Jeff Eamon, a highly capable individual who is on the run with his son, while James plays Brian Jennings, a regular accountant who gets roped into an action-packed adventure when him and his son get wrapped up in a fight against mercenaries. Playdate finds company on Prime Video's domestic movies chart in major releases like Ryan Gosling's sci-fi box office hit Project Hail Mary, the fantasy epic streaming sensation Masters of the Universe, the recent Prime Video original romance The Last Sunrise, and more. Gal Gadot's The Runner is currently the most-watched movie on Prime Video nationwide.
The Movie's Resurgence Comes At The Perfect Time
AmazonNot only is Playdate's streaming resurgence timed closely to the action movie's one-year anniversary, but Ritchson's hit movie is back on Prime Video's chart as the actor leads the streamer's TV charts. Right now, Reacher is the most-watched TV show on Prime Video in the United States, leaving behind Sterling Point, Off Campus, Ride or Die, and many more. Reacher season 4's finale will be released on Prime Video next week, on September 16. As such, Playdate's streaming resurgence gives Alan Ritchson another hit on the streamer's charts as Reacher gets ready to start falling on the list as new episodes stop airing.
