After fan outcry, Capcom is patching Alex's incest storyline in Street Fighter 6 (yes, you read that right)

Capcom announced a future patch for Street Fighter 6, revising some of the text passages added with the latest DLC character, Alex. This comes after players on social media mocked the New York fighter for marrying and impregnating his second cousin and step-sister, Patricia, who he knew as a baby.

In a statement posted to social media, Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama wrote: "We apologize for any confusion that recent topics regarding Alex's story may have caused.

"While we have not changed the characters' backstories, after internal review by the development team, we plan to revise certain text passages that may have been misleading in the near future. Additionally, we have published a supplementary episode on "Buckler's Boot Camp" to provide further insight into the characters' emotions and backstories."

This supplementary episode is called 'A Toast Between Fathers' and is written by the Street Fighter scenario team. It is a follow-up from Alex and Patricia's wedding and establishes that while they are still step-siblings, they weren't close growing up and only became close later in life. So, that means it's still official canon that Alex marries his step-sister and has a relationship with his second cousin. People are speculating - or hoping - the cousin aspect will also change per these updates, but there's no confirmation yet.

The response to this statement has been pretty intense. Del on Twitter posted the Alex story mode image of Alex marrying Patricia and holding her as a baby, writing: "There's no confusion LMAO. You made Alex's sibling-like relationship with his second cousin go from him holding her as a baby to marrying, and getting her pregnant. The emotion you're seeing from Street Fighter fans is not CONFUSION, it's something else - I promise".

Shuckle on X made some custom art to celebrate the occasion, which you can see below. They also expressed their thoughts on the matter, writing: "We do not want Alex and Patricia to be in a romantic relationship, that is the entire problem. Alex can marry anyone else, it's fine, but having his step-sister as his wife is the problem. How was this missed in the writing process? Did nobody speak up about it?"

While Street Fighter has had retcons in the past, such as Akuma constantly having his accomplishments changed through Street Fighter 2 onwards, but this is the first ever incest patch in Street Fighter's history. Maybe gaming history. Keep breaking new ground, Capcom.
