After 5 Years, Marvel's True WandaVision Sequel Just Became Nearly Impossible

A direct WandaVision sequel has just become nearly impossible after a new update that impacts the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a major way. There is no debate that the supernatural series stands as one of the best TV shows in the MCU, with projects like Loki and Daredevil: Born Again among other hit Marvel Studios series on Disney+.

So far, two WandaVision sequels have been put into motion by Marvel. Agatha All Along explored the MCU series' main villain after the end of WandaVision, reintroducing one of Wanda and Vision's sons, Billy. In 2026, Vision Quest brings back White Vision and reintroduces the couple's other son, Tommy. However, neither of those projects is a direct WandaVision sequel with the Scarlet Witch, and that might never happen.

How A New Marvel Update Makes WandaVision's True Sequel Nearly Impossible

Jac Schaeffer is one of the most important creators in the MCU. She served as the mastermind behind WandaVision and Agatha All Along, with the writer also being initially attached to oversee development on Vision Quest. She eventually dropped out of the latter because she was working on it and Agatha All Along at the same time, "in a way that wasn't tenable," as explained to The Hollywood Reporter.

While Schaeffer has been one of the architects of Marvel TV in the last few years, the hit franchise will have to find a way to move forward without her. According to Variety, Jac Schaeffer inked a three-year television overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. She is expected to work on all aspects of new TV shows — creating, writing, directing, producing, etc. — for Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

As such, those who still held hopes that Schaeffer would be back at Marvel for a WandaVision sequel series that told the story of Elizabeth Olsen's return as the Scarlet Witch have just had those hopes dashed. At least for the next three years, Schaeffer will not be working on any new MCU shows.

Marvel's True WandaVision Sequel Could Still Happen In A Different Way

While another creator could be brought on for a WandaVision sequel series with the Scarlet Witch, the only main character of that show not to get a follow-up so far, who would want to see that happen without Schaeffer? Despite a TV sequel becoming nearly impossible, there could still be a way for WandaVision's creator to bring back the Scarlet Witch in the next three years.

After all, Schaeffer signed a TV overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios, which should not block her from making the true WandaVision sequel as a Scarlet Witch solo movie at Marvel Studios. Wanda Maximoff's popularity would definitely warrant a move to the big screen. That way, Vision and Agatha Harkness would get their TV sequels, while the main star, the Scarlet Witch, would triumphantly return in a WandaVision sequel movie.
