Adam Brody is branded 'ignorant Jew' by Nobody Wants This rabbi consultant who torched star over 'free Palestine' support

Adam Brody has been slammed by a rabbi who consulted on his hit Netflix show over his support of the 'free Palestine' movement and over his remarks labelling Israel's attack on Gaza as a 'genocide.'

Former technical consultant for Nobody Wants This, Rabbi Steve Leder, blasted the 46-year-old actor and called him an 'ignorant Jew' for his recent comments after Brody's fellow Hollywood actors were arrested at a UN protest.

Last week Brody told GQ: 'Put me down as thinking it’s a genocide. Put me down as wanting a free Palestine. It’s awful that it’s taken so much death and misery, but it does feel like it’s reaching a breaking point that it should have a while ago.

'I’m hopeful that another administration can really do some good and correct some of these policies that are helping that situation be as awful as it is.'

Now Leder, who is a former senior rabbi of Wilshire Boulevard Temple, took to his Instagram on Wednesday to post a video in response to Brody's remarks.

Leder said: 'Hi Adam, you might not remember me. My name is Rabbi Steve Leder, and I was the technical advisor for Season 1 of Nobody Wants This.

'My job was to make sure that your character was authentic and that everything in Season 1 about Judaism was authentic.'

The Daily Mail has reached out to both Brody and Leder for further comment and has yet to hear back.

In Nobody Wants This, Brody's character Rabbi Noah Roklov starts an unexpected romance with agnostic podcaster Joanne Williams (played by Kristen Bell) as the new love shakes both families as Williams immerses herself in Roklov's culture when she decides to convert to Judaism.

Leder continued: 'Your pronouncement the other day about a genocide in Gaza was truly shocking, not only because of your misuse and mischaracterization of the word "genocide"—there is no genocide in Gaza, there are genocides happening in other countries happening but you failed to mention any of them.

'You, by your own admission are a relatively ignorant Jew, and your ignorance really showed the other day.'

Leder - who has authored several books - concluded his video by blasting Brody over his use of the word 'genocide.'

He said: 'If you’re gonna use a word like "genocide," you oughta know what it means. And by the way, being so flippant about a word like "genocide"—"hey put me down for [thinking it’s a] genocide" like you’re asking for a table for two at Craig’s is disgusting.

'Here’s some more technical advice; if you know nothing about something, you should say nothing about it.'

Israel has grown increasingly isolated throughout the war in Gaza. The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas-led militants attacked Israel, killing around 1,200 people and kidnapping 251.

At least 73,922 Palestinians have been killed in Israel's subsequent offensive, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, part of the Hamas-run government whose numbers are generally considered reliable by the international community.

A ceasefire agreed to by Israel and Hamas last October halted the heaviest of the fighting and led to the release of the remaining hostages yet further steps have since stalled.

Israel maintains control of most of Gaza and continues to carry out airstrikes on Palestinians near military-held zones.

Hamas has not disarmed or relinquished power and there has been no progress toward reconstruction in the mostly destroyed territory.

Meanwhile back in September 2024, Leder talked about how he coached the Hollywood stars on all things Jewish for the on-screen interfaith romance.

'Anything in the series that is, for lack of a better way to put it, overtly Jewish — I did my best to make sure it was done with authenticity and respect,' Leder told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency about his behind the scenes role at the time.

From teaching the proper pronunciation of Hebrew words to arranging the perfect Shabbat table, Leder left no kippah unturned in his quest for on-screen authenticity.

Brody, who plays a charming LA rabbi in the show, confessed two years ago that he was in desperate need of Leder's guidance.

Despite being famous for playing Jewish characters like Seth Cohen in 'The O.C.', the actor admitted, 'I barely got bar mitzvahed and retained nothing from it.'
