Activision has put out a statement to clarify that the next Call of Duty game will not come to PlayStation 4 and, presumably, skip the Xbox One as well.
The developer took to X in the wake of recent speculation that a cross-generation release is planned for later this year. "Not sure where this one started, but it's not true," the new post reads. "The next Call of Duty is not being developed for PS4."

This would make it the first Call of Duty game for PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S that is not also available on PS4 and Xbox One. Even last year's Black Ops 7 came to those systems, despite them both being more than a decade old at this point.

Prior to this announcement, some rumors had indicated that the next game would skip the previous generation platforms in order to deliver some more significant technical upgrades than other recent entries.
This upcoming Call of Duty title is widely expected to be a new entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series. The latest leaks point to it being titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with a storyline that takes the Task Force 141 team to Korea.
Call of Duty games usually release around October or November each year, so we will likely hear more about it in the weeks and months ahead.
