‘Abbott Elementary’ Renewed For Season 6 By ABC

4 weeks ago 14

ABC is keeping the tradition going, handing flagship comedy Abbott Elementary an early Season 6 renewal for 2026-27. This marks the fourth consecutive year that the network has kicked off renewals with Abbott Elementary as the first series to secure a spot on the schedule for the following season.

Also per tradition, Abbott Elementary‘s renewal got a special announcement, this time by Barbara Howard (Sheryl Lee Ralph) with an outgoing message on her voicemail. (You can listen to it below.)

Five seasons in, the award-winning Abbott Elementary remains a major draw for young viewers and families. Season to date, the series created by and starring Quinta Burnson ranks as TV’s No. 1 comedy among Adults 18-49 in multi-platform viewing over 7 days based on Nielsen Streaming Content Ratings.

As Deadline noted in the ABC Renewal Status Report last month, Abbott Elementary‘s pickup was never in doubt. In fact, all ABC returning scripted series have a very good chance of making it to the 2026-27 season. For veteran shows, most notably Grey’s Anatomy, a renewal is likely to come with budget trims, which may impact the size of the order for next season.

Produced by Warner Bros. Television and 20th Television, a part of Disney Television Studios, Abbott Elementary revolves around the teachers at an underfunded public school in Philadelphia. It stars Emmy winner Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson and Emmy winner Ralph as Barbara Howard.
