Aaron Rodgers Details “Losing Friendships, Family” Over Controversial Views in New Docuseries
Aaron Rodgers' time with the New York Jets has reached its end zone.
The quarterback will not return to the NFL team next season, the franchise confirmed Feb. 13.
"Last week we met with Aaron and shared that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback," Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn and General Manager Darren Mougey in a statement. "It was important to have this discussion now to provide clarity and enable each of us the proper time to plan for our respective futures."
The two thanked the 41-year-old "for the leadership, passion, and dedication he brought to the organization and wish him success moving forward."
The four-time NFL MVP, who moved to the Jets after 18 seasons and one Super Bowl win with the Green Bay Packers, as not commented on the news.
However, his time with the New York team was full of ups and downs. Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles tendon in his first game with the Jets in September 2023 just after signing a two-year, $75 million deal to play for the team.
This past season, which the team ended with a 5-12 record, he started 17 games and his 3,897 yards and 28 TDs were the third-best single-season totals in franchise history, respectively, the Jets' statement said.
"I personally want to thank Aaron for his time at the New York Jets," team chairman Woody Johnson added. "His arrival in 2023 was met with unbridled excitement and I will forever be grateful that he chose to join us to continue his Hall of Fame career."
He continued, "From day one, he embodied all that it meant to be a New York Jet, embraced our fans, and immersed himself in our city. That is what I will remember most when I look back at his time here. He will always be welcome, and I wish him only the best in whatever he chooses to do next."

As to whether Rodgers, now a free agent, will continue in his career or hang up his cleats? The NFL star previously indicated he hadn't made up his mind about whether to play in the 2025-2026 season.
"I'm open to whatever comes and not attached to anything," Rodgers said on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show in November, "but playing in in New York would obviously be my first choice."
When he joined the Jets, he wanted "to give at least two good years," adding, "Now there's obviously opinions about whether or not I've given any good years, but obviously, last year was an injury and this year hasn't gone as well as anybody would have liked. But I have really enjoyed my time."
