The only way out is Hugh.
Pragmata's director would "of course" love to make a sequel to Capcom's space-based small girl and astronaut starring game, but he isn't the only person who needs to give it the green light.
After years of waiting and a fair smattering of delays, Pragmata finally released in February. Thankfully, it was worth the wait. The game was critically acclaimed on its debut, and went on to sell 1m copies in just two days. That number rose to 2m earlier this month. So, will Capcom capitalise on the momentum, and potentially bring us Pragmata 2 as part of a new franchise?
This question was posed by GamesRadar, who recently spoke with Pragmata director Yonghee Cho and producer Naoto Oyama. Both developers were quite guarded with their responses, but it certainly sounds like if the opportunity was to present itself, they would love a Pragmata sequel.
"I honestly don’t know what the future holds. Like you said, it’s only been a month since Pragmata went on sale, so honestly, what I'm focused on is just trying to get as many people to experience Pragmata as I can," Oyama replied, diplomatically. "I'm focused on Pragmata itself."
Director Cho gave a bit more hope with his answer, saying "of course" he'd love to see a Pragmata sequel realised. "But I’m not the only one who decides, so unfortunately I can't really comment beyond that," Cho added, before noting that this was his "own personal opinion on the matter", so we shouldn't read too much into it.
But, there is reason to be optimistic about the future of Pragamata. After all, earlier this month chief operating officer of Capcom USA Rob Dyer appeared to suggest Pragmata could become a franchise, saying the studio now has "another IP". Personally, I would love to see more Pragmata - I very quickly fell in love with both Diana and Hugh when I played earlier this year.
Haven't played it for yourself yet and want to know more? Our Dom awarded Pragmata four stars in their review, calling it "a proudly experimental gamble".
