A man of the (normal) people! Paul Mescal gets a warm handshake from his driver as he leaves five-star Claridge's - after confirming romance with Gracie Abrams

Paul Mescal was a man  of the people, Normal People that is, as he ventured out in London on Sunday. 

The actor shook hands with his driver as he checked out of the five-star Claridge's hotel in Mayfair and climbed into the rear of a waiting car. 

Meeting him at the entrance, Mescal and his smartly-dressed driver exchanged some friendly words as they greeted one another with a firm handshake before setting off. 

The Irish star, 26, looked relaxed in a hooded top and Carhartt jacket teamed with generously cut chinos and a pair of battered Adidas Spezial trainers. 

He was without current girlfriend Gracie Abrams, the singer daughter of Hollywood film director JJ Abrams, with whom he has enjoyed a string of dates in the English capital.

Mescal confirmed his new romance with Abrams during a public appearance in  August.

The star, who was first spotted with Abrams two months earlier, wrapped his arms around her while they took a leisurely stroll following dinner at Mountain Restaurant in Soho. 

Mescal and Abrams were previously ere spotted shopping together in the capital in July, during which they behaved like 'any other young couple.' 

A source told The Sun: 'Paul and Gracie looked like any other young couple hitting the shops, and they went almost unnoticed.

'They seemed very relaxed in each other’s company and were busy checking out the posh shops on Bond Street.

'Paul is a very low-key person, as is Gracie, so there was no fanfare and they kept their distance from each other when they were out on the street'.

The insider also claimed that following their shopping spree, both Mescal and the Close To You singer 'left separately' and they each made their own way home.

Abrams had been in the UK for a series of gigs and was said to have been staying at the Chiltern Firehouse in central London.

Mescal wasn't spotted at any of her recent shows which took place in Kingston-Upon-Thames, Bristol and Southampton, but the source thought it was 'telling' that she chose to keep coming back to the English capital.

The couple were also seen recently dining together at Brat, a Michelin-starred restaurant in London's Shoreditch.

The pair could be set to become Hollywood's latest 'power couple' should they remain together, with both of their profiles on the rise.

It has been claimed that Mescal's upcoming role in director Ridley Scott's Gladiator sequel will send him 'into the stratosphere' of stardom.

Meanwhile, Abrams recently achieved a major boost when she served alongside Sabrina Carpenter as an opening act for Taylor Swift during her Eras tour.
