EXCLUSIVE: A globe-trotting feature documentary A Girl Like Rose will tell the story of Rose Bertram, drawing back the curtain on the Belgian supermodel’s professional and family life. Jonathan de Jong directs through his SUPER7EVEN label. The film will be released next summer.

Bertram broke through at the age of 16 and has worked for brands including H&M, L’Oréal, AP and Sports Illustrated, and has also built a profile as an influencer and creator. Her acting debut came in Dutch film Scotoe, directed by Jamel Aattache.

A Girl Like Rose has been filmed over five years across locales including Shanghai, Cannes, Dubai, Ibiza and Los Angeles. It follows its subject as she navigates a new chapter in her career and personal life after having kids, and the film also takes in her relationship with her own mother. The producers said that viewers will be given an up-close and personal story that challenges how we see both the world of fashion and also reveals what happens behind closed doors.

The film is the latest project from Amsterdam-based doc producer SUPER7EVEN, which was behind Human Forever and its recently announced sequel, Human II Forever. Speaking about A Girl Like Rose, de Jong, the label’s founder, said: “Never before have I been so heavily invested in a subject and the people affected by it as I have with this film. Across two very different worlds, I witnessed how powerful the love between a mother and daughter can be – and how that same love can place an entire family under immense strain when circumstances begin to outweigh it.”

He added: “This film poses and confronts a rather universal yet painful question: how far can you go for the people you love without losing yourself in the process?”

Bastiaan Brand is creative producer on the film. Bob Thole is overseeing the score. MN Media and High Mass have distribution for the Netherlands and Belgium, respectively.
