Tom Hanks is one of the most renowned actors in the world, with some of his greatest performances dating back over 30 years to his work in Philadelphia and Big. Hanks is also famous for his blockbuster role as Forrest Gump in the heartfelt comedy/drama film of the same name, and he’s even lent his voice to Woody in Toy Story for years now. Hanks is one of the greatest living actors, and when you’ve achieved such a high level of stardom as he has, that means you get to work with some of the best writers and directors in the game.
10 years ago, Hanks teamed up with Clint Eastwood for the hit docudrama, Sully. The film is based on the real story of pilot Chesley Sullenberger, who landed his damaged plane in the Hudson River to save hundreds of passengers and crew members’ lives. The film debuted to widespread critical acclaim, earning scores of 85% from critics and 84% from audiences on the aggregate site Rotten Tomatoes. It also grossed $243 million at the box office against a $60 million budget, making it a strong financial success. Aaron Eckhart and Laura Linney also star in the film.
Sully is not streaming anywhere in America at the time of writing, but the film has been picking up steam on VOD platforms overseas, such as iTunes and Google. With it gaining popularity all these years after release, it likely won’t be long before it returns to one of the big streaming services in America. This success proves that Sully just keeps getting better by the year — the duo of Tom Hanks and Clint Eastwood is hard to beat.
Tom Hanks Is Hard at Work on His New WWII Sequel
One of Tom Hanks’ most successful movies of his career has been Greyhound, which has become a force on Apple TV over the last few years despite not getting a theatrical release. Apple TV announced a while ago it was moving forward with a sequel to Greyhound, and it was just confirmed last week that production on the film is underway. Not only is Hanks returning to star in and write the film, but he’s joined by other returning stars like Stephen Graham and Elisabeth Shue. No word on a potential release date for the film, yet.
Be sure to watch Sully on VOD platforms like Prime Video in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
