According to a press release from developer Bulkhead and publisher Team 17, Wardogs surpassed 1 million wishlists last month. Now, on launch day, that has translated to more 1 million sales. "Wardogs reached 100,000 Steam wishlists just three days after its reveal, passed 500,000 in May and hit one million wishlists in August," the statement reads. "Now, as the game enters Early Access today, one million wishlists have become more than one million copies sold."
Its current player count has already surpassed the record the game set during a brief open beta phase last weekend, which peaked at just over 245,000. This news also comes shortly after the Wardogs launch trailer announced the game will be coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox at some point in 2028.
Wardogs is an FPS game that is aiming to carve out its own niche within the genre. It's considered more hardcore than casual shooters such as Call of Duty and Battlefield, but it isn't as realistic or unforgiving as games like Escape From Tarkov or Squad. Matches consist of 100 players split across three teams, fighting for control of a slowly moving zone, in a mode called King of the Hill.
“To cross a million copies sold as we launch into early access is mental,” said Joe Brammer, CEO at Bulkhead. “We've spent the last few months showing people exactly what Wardogs is, what it isn't, and at one point literally gave everyone ten reasons not to buy it. We didn't want people buying into blind hype. So seeing more than one million people choose to jump in and play the game at early access launch means a huge amount to all of us.
"But this is still early access. We've got things to fix, things we want to improve and a lot more we want to build. The best thing players can do now is keep playing, keep telling us what they think and keep giving us those ridiculous Wardogs moments.”
