90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? star Kobe Blaise has a different name which is the real one and not the one he uses on the show. Kobe is from Cameroon but was working in China when he crossed paths with Emily. Kobe was an underwear model while Emily was teaching English to kids there. Kobe and Emily’s one-night stand after they met each other at a club turned into a full-blown romance. The 90 Day Fiancé season 9 couple became pregnant with their first baby and Kobe proposed to Emily before they went back to their home countries.

Kobe reunited with Emily on a K-1 visa after two years and started his 90 Day Fiancé journey. The couple faced financial issues as they lived in Emily’s parents’ basement. The problems intensified with Emily becoming pregnant again as Kobe started to feel like a burden on his in-laws. He even thought of moving to Cameroon with Emily and their children, but Emily wished to raise the kids in the U.S. until they were old enough to understand Kobe’s culture. Emily gave birth to their third child in March 2024 and Emily and Kobe bought their own house in Kansas.

Kobe Decided To Name His Son After His Best Friend

Kobe Was Thankful To Valerie & His Family

Emily was against naming her son “Atem” after Kobe’s friend Valerie. As per their interview with ET, Emily and Kobe had a big argument because Emily was not set on the name. She didn’t think it was the “right name” and didn’t like its feel. She thinks it was the only thing they really had fights about ever in their marriage. However, Kobe was already set on the name because it was his way to honor his best friend. Kobe lived with Valerie and his family. Valerie butted heads with Emily on Happily Ever After? season 8.

Atem is Valerie’s family name. Kobe had decided 10 years ago that he was going to name one of his sons “Atem” to say thank you to Valerie for what he and his family had done for him. After much protest, Emily came around to the name. They did want a Cameroonian name for the baby that was conceived in Cameroon. However, it now makes sense why Kobe didn’t name his firstborn, who is also a son, after Valerie.

When other 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? viewers put two and two together, it became clear that Kobe’s eldest son was named after him. Emily had never explained why she’d named her son “Koban.” Although some fans like Soggy_Waffle303 swear they heard her referring to her son as “COVID” because the child was born possibly during the pandemic. It will be interesting to see if Emily has another son in the future and who he will be named after, as per their family tradition.
