Ryan Guzman as Eddie Diaz in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 5

9-1-1 co-creator Tim Minear previews major confessions for Eddie, Buck, and Tommy, plus one confession for Maddie, in what should be a significant episode. After a one-week hiatus, 9-1-1 season 8 is back for an episode titled "Confessions." It's known that the episode will see Eddie Diaz (Ryan Guzman) deal with his feelings of missing his son Christopher (Gavin McHugh). But there are also developments for the rest of the ABC drama's ensemble.

In comments to Entertainment Weekly, co-creator and showrunner Tim Minear talked about "Confessions", which airs tonight at 8 PM ET on ABC. Minear, who created the series with Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, shared that Eddie finds himself literally in a confessional. And while Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) only has a relatively small confession, the showrunner teased a big moment for Buck (Oliver Stark) and Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.):

In the cases and in the personal stories, there are a lot of confessions being made. [Eddie] literally is in a confessional, confessing. Then Maddie has a little confession to make as well.

Tommy doesn’t even know he’s really making a confession until the end of the episode when everything becomes clear. And then he confesses something about himself and their relationship. It’s all confessions!

The Revelations Will Be Significant

The episode will pick up on Eddie's tormented feelings about a rift with his young son. In an exceptionally wild storyline, even for 9-1-1's standards, Eddie develops feelings for a woman that looks exactly like his ex-wife and Christopher's dead mother. Christopher, understandably, is upset by this. He goes to live with his grandparents in Texas at the end of 9-1-1 season 7, which Eddie just as understandably has been struggling with.

As for Maddie and husband Howard (Kenneth Choi), in tonight's episode, they'll talk about how their daughter Jee-Yun is impacted after Mara (Askyler Bell) is back to living with Hen (Aisha Hinds) and Karen (Tracie Thomas). Mara had been living with Maddie and Howard for months while Karen and Hen fought to retain custody.

9-1-1 is a heart-pounding drama with many amazing episodes that take shows about emergency responders to new levels, and these are the best of them.

"Confessions", which is written by Andrew Meyers, and directed by Chad Lowe, will also be big for Buck and Tommy, but it is less clear how. After being in the background for most of 9-1-1's season 8, they came back into the forefront for the season's Halloween episode and looked to be on solid ground. The upcoming installment will explore that further, which has been confirmed by Stark in an interview with Screen Rant.

Our Take On 9-1-1's "Confessions" Episode

It's One To Be Excited About

Oliver Stark and Ryan Guzman in 911 season 7, episode 10, as Buck and Eddie

Fans of the Buck and Eddie relationship on the show have wondered whether "Confessions" will be a significant episode for the pairing. In any case, with the 9-1-1 season 9 renewal still unconfirmed, there is a lot to be excited about for the overall ensemble of the first-responder series after the early episodes focused more on Athena (Angela Bassett) and Bobby (Peter Krause).
