Humphrey Bogart's greatest crime movie of all time is officially returning to theaters 85 years after its original release.
Bogart's performances in classic Hollywood films made him a defining American cultural icon and arguably the greatest star of the era. He rose to fame portraying private detectives Sam Spade in The Maltese Falcon (1941) and Philip Marlowe in The Big Sleep (1946), roles that shaped the archetype for detectives throughout film noir in later movies and popular culture overall.
Now, to mark its 85th anniversary, The Maltese Falcon is returning to theaters this December 6–9 as part of Fathom Entertainment's Big Screen Classics film series, with tickets now available for purchase through the website and participating box offices. This re-release will mark the first time The Maltese Falcon has played in domestic theaters since 1941.
Other movies set for re-releases this year include Citizen Kane (1941), Ocean's Eleven (2001), Silence of the Lambs (1991), Gone With the Wind (1939), It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Ben-Hur (1959), Fried Green Tomatoes (1991), The Birdcage (1996), The Fifth Element (1997), Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971), and A Beautiful Mind (2001).
