Harrison was born on Catalina Island in Southern California in 1950.
Harrison is a veteran, who received an honorable discharge from the US Army in 1971. He later quit his job as a doorman and moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting.
He made his television debut in a guest appearance on the CBS series M*A*S*H before going on to star on the spinoff series.
