Cloyce Martin is the latest chef on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, but he's already proved to be a villain. Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 was highly anticipated after First Officer Gary King's alleged sexual misconduct in the previous season. According to former Bravo makeup artist Samantha Suarez, Gary behaved inappropriately towards her when production asked her to escort the cast member back to his room. While Gary has undoubtedly been cast as a villain, the real bad guy for the upcoming season is Chef Cloyce.
Captain Glenn Shepherd, Gary, and Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher were the only returning cast members for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. Chef Cloyce took over the galley as a fresh-faced and overly confident cast member in the new season. Chef Cloyce is joined by Chief Engineer Davide Morosi, replacing former Chief Engineer Colin Macrae, stews Diana Cruz and Danni Waren, and deckhands Keith Allen and Emma Crouch. With all the new faces, it's surprising Chef Cloyce is already the stand-out villain.
8 Cloyce Talks Back To Daisy
She's Unimpressed With His Behavior
Chef Cloyce and Daisy have already had problems on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5. During the last charter, Daisy expected Chef Cloyce to follow her timing cues for dinner service, but Chef Cloyce was frustrated when Daisy sent deckhands to deliver messages instead of speaking directly to him. At one point, when dessert was delayed, he pointed out he was waiting on Daisy's signal, leading her to exclaim in frustration that they were "gonna fight" if he kept questioning her decisions. Instead of remaining professional, Chef Cloyce has shown he wants to talk back.

Understandably, Daisy expressed Chef Cloyce was, “throwing [her] under the bus” by not preparing courses when she gave the clear. In his confessional, Chef Cloyce expressed that “clear” had a different meaning for him, wanting direct updates from her rather than third-party instructions.
7 Chef Cloyce Didn't Come On Below Deck Sailing Yacht To Make Friends
He Doesn't Care If Anyone Likes Him
After the first charter, the crew went out together in Ibiza, typical for the Below Deck Sailing Yacht crew post-charter. However, when he was hanging out with Gary and deckhand Keith after going out, Chef Cloyce made it obvious he wasn't working on the yacht to make friends. The three sat around drinking and smoking cigarettes, joking around. Chef Cloyce expressed that the camaraderie was unexpected because he didn't intend to form friendships. His behavior is especially bizarre because he's shown romantic interest in Daisy despite treating her poorly.
It's always a red flag when someone says, "I'm not here to make friends." Chef Cloyce is a villain.
There's definitely tension between Chef Cloyce and the rest of the cast, which sometimes doesn’t align with the teamwork dynamic crucial on a yacht. While he maintains his standards in the galley, his approach has sparked concerns from Captain Glenn, who’s already observed the challenges in Cloyce’s integration with the team. Saying friendship isn't a priority is usually reserved for villains on reality TV.
6 Cloyce Disobeyed Captain Glenn By Hanging Out With The Guests
He Should Have Been Prepping For Lunch
Chef Cloyce got himself in trouble with Captain Glenn when the Bravo star chose to fraternize with the guests rather than prepare lunch. Whatever patience Captain Glenn had with Chef Cloyce during the first charter had completely disintegrated after the guests' stomachs began rumbling, and their chef was enjoying a sunny day on the water with them. Before departing, Chef Cloyce assured Daisy that he had prepared a salad and would bake chicken and salmon while away, planning a straightforward, light lunch.
Chef Cloyce's overconfidence will be his downfall on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
However, his absence left Captain Glenn increasingly concerned as he checked the galley and found minimal prep for the upcoming meal, even discovering a mess in his wake. Captain Glenn, frustrated with the delay and Chef Cloyce’s decision to prioritize socializing over kitchen duties, expressed his disappointment and asked to bring him back right away. It was shocking behavior so early in the charter season, making him a potential villain moving forward.
5 Chef Cloyce Was No Fun On The Night Out
He Won't Follow Daisy's System
It's a good thing Chef Cloyce doesn't care about making friends because he's certainly not going to make any based on his behavior. After Chef Cloyce volunteered to buy two bottles of wine for the crew, Daisy explained that everyone takes turns paying the bill throughout the charter season. Chef Cloyce immediately began loudly complaining that he wouldn't consume five or six drinks, making the entire system unfair.
Crew members typically make over 1,000 euros each per charter. One dinner out isn't going to break the bank.
Daisy has seniority over Chef Cloyce when it comes to age and experience on the Parsifal III, and if he didn't want to be a villain, he wouldn't rock the boat. However, Chef Cloyce doesn't want to be a team player, which is why he threw a fit about not taking turns with the bill. It was silly because the bill would likely be around the same each time, making it a one-time investment for each of the crew members. Chef Cloyce might want to save up and support his family at home, but he didn't go about arguing his case well.
4 Cloyce Acts Like He's The Best Chef To Ever Live
He's A Little Too Confident
While there have been some colorful characters starring as chefs on Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Chef Cloyce might be the most overly confident chef the show has ever seen. Chef Cloyce's experience as a 22-year-old chef is definitely impressive, but he needs to cut the act and actually improve or risk looking like a villain. Despite Cloyce's confidence in his cooking skills and belief that minimal prep is sufficient, his behavior—such as abandoning his duties to join in on guest activities—is unacceptable.
Age | 22 |
Job | Chef |
Hometown | California |
Chef Cloyce left the galley nearly untouched while the chicken and salmon were left raw, just 80 minutes before a scheduled lunch, which left Captain Glenn scrambling to get him back on board. Chef Cloyce's disregard for the need to balance work and fun even resulted in miscommunications with Chief Stew Daisy, adding to service delays, including a 17-minute delay in dessert service. While the guests were happy with the bread pudding, Chef Cloyce needs to stop bragging and step it up.
3 Chef Cloyce Doesn't Listen To Orders From Daisy
He's Going To Make Her Hate Him
Chef Cloyce is on thin ice with Daisy and Captain Glenn. It was a giant mistake when Chef Cloyce decided to go with his own terminology and timing for dessert rather than listen to Daisy's orders. He expected Daisy herself to relay this information directly, creating a gap that led to a 17-minute delay in service. Not listening to Daisy proves Chef Cloyce's villain status and desire to cause trouble onboard the Parsifal III. The next day, due to Chef Cloyce's decision to hang out with the guests, Daisy was left dealing with hungry guests for fifteen minutes.
Chef Cloyce exhibits more decision-making skills on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
The strained dynamic between Daisy and Chef Cloyce continued with Cloyce's decision to order a cake for a charter guest's 60th birthday rather than bake it, resulting in a mishap when he tried to heat it up, causing it to fall apart. Daisy commented that Chef Cloyce's shortcut was “horrific.” Captain Glenn seemed to be on Daisy's side of the situation, but it won't make Cloyce any easier to deal with.
2 Chef Cloyce Doesn't Want To Be A Team Player
He Tried To Do Diana's Job
Chef Cloyce has proven he's not a team player, which is imperative for a chef working on a sailing yacht. Not only did he neglect his prep duties to hang with the guests, but he tried to take over Diana's job. He was joking around and pouring wine for the guests before Diana could attend to them as an interior stew. She was thoroughly unimpressed and felt like he completely sidelined her. Diana just wanted to do her job on the hit Bravo show.
Perhaps if Chef Cloyce had been preparing lunch during this time instead of goofing off with charter guests in the water, he could have had the time to make a cake more fitting for a 60th birthday party. As Daisy pointed out, the tip guests leave hangs on the skills of the chef. If Chef Cloyce doesn't want to share the alcohol bill after each charter, the least he could do is make sure the crew makes a hefty tip after each charter.
1 Chef Cloyce Made Hypocritical Rules For His Galley
He Won't Do Made To Order Food
Chef Cloyce disagreed with Daisy's approach to taking individual guest orders, which made his job in the galley more complicated. He also criticized the interior crew for supposed communication lapses, like when he insisted Daisy personally radio him to confirm when tables were cleared, despite her already having sent word through the deck team. This led Daisy to call out his lack of teamwork and potential diva behavior. It wasn't a big deal when the guests from the first charter wanted their steaks cooked differently, but Chef Cloyce threw a temper tantrum and blamed Daisy.
Also, Chef Cloyce should be expected to make a birthday cake, but since he allegedly hates making cakes, he ordered one from a bakery and heated it in the oven. It looked terrible, and it should have gone against the rules for a chef aboard a luxury yacht. Between his cocky attitude, hypocritical rules, and combative personality, Chef Cloyce is definitely the villain in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5.
