While there are quite a few memorable one-liners and quotes in The Boys season 5 that are both amusing and shocking in equal measure, there are some that stick with you long after the show's credits start rolling. The Boys is best known for its shock-inducing action sequences, deaths, and superpower reveals.

Even from a storytelling standpoint, the Prime Video sci-fi show keeps viewers entertained with its satire and fascinating real-world parallels. What further adds to its appeal, though, is its clever dialogue. A character like Billy Butcher is particularly fun to watch because he can turn even the most ordinary conversation into a barrage of razor-sharp insults with his accent.

Similarly, Soldier Boy often takes the center stage every time he is on the screen because of his ability to say the most random and bizarre things. Homelander's delusional claims of how he is humanity's greatest protector are equally captivating. In The Boys, whether a line is hilarious or unexpectedly insightful, it perfectly captures the essence of the character delivering them.

This is why some lines in the show are truly unforgettable and constantly repeated and remembered by viewers.

"If he’s the second coming, what does that make me? Joseph?"

Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy refuses to accept that Homelander's the "second coming" and goes on a full-blown rant about how Homelander being god would make him Joseph. What makes this one so shocking is that it takes one of the most sacred stories in Christianity and filters it through Soldier Boy's uniquely crude, irreverent worldview. He does not even try to make a thoughtful theological argument, and, instead, goes on to say:

"If he’s the second coming, what does that make me? Joseph? I mean, talk about the biggest cuck in history. Man trades his best cow to bag some hot-a-s virgin, and then God comes and squirts his baby gravy up her meat wallet. F--k that."

"Buddy, the Queen sat on this face. It’s a national f**king treasure.”

Soldier Boy

As always, some of the most hilariously bizarre lines in The Boys season 5 come from Soldier Boy. He claims to be a national "f**king treasure" not because he achieved some rare feat of heroism or honor. Instead, he bases his self-proclaimed importance on a crude encounter from his past. Like most of Soldier Boy's quotes, though, the line isn't supposed to be taken too seriously.

"Did you f**k me? Is this some kinda incest thing?"

Soldier Boy

Homelander has done some deeply disturbing and deranged acts since season 1. His fixation with milk has been revealed to be a consequence of psychological dependency on parental figures. However, Homelander, too, seems disgusted when Soldier Boy asks him if he "f**ked" him."

This highlights how Homelander, too, draws a line with his obsession with gaining a father figure's approval, while Soldier Boy does not have any filters. He says whatever he wants, whenever he wants.

“I felt like Mother Mary herself.”

Firecracker

Moments before Homelander kills Firecracker in The Boys season 5, her devotion towards him seems to peak. She even claims that when she used to breastfeed him, it made her feel like she was "Mother Mary herself." The line becomes a chilling portrayal of how supes like her are no less delusional and deranged than Homelander himself.

To her dismay, Homelander senses her fear and realizes she is not being honest. He even stops caring about the unwavering loyalty she had shown him for years because, in his eyes, genuine worship matters more than blind obedience. As a result, even though she tries to hold him synonymous with god with her "Mother Mary" reference, he does not think twice before killing her.

“Get f**ked! I am nothing like you.”

Ryan

Ryan talking to Homelander in The Boys

Since the beginning, a major theme in The Boys has dabbled with generational trauma from problematic father figures. Soldier Boy, Homelander, and Billy Butcher struggled to escape the emotional scars left by the men who raised them. And despite hating their father figures, they ended up repeating their mistakes. Ryan was on the path to do the same.

Up till the end of The Boys season 4, he was struggling to break free from Homelander's influence and was seemingly on the path to becoming like him. However, in season 5, he finally breaks the chain and confronts Homelander by telling him that he is nothing like him. He even proves how he is nothing like his father by eventually joining forces with Butcher and the team and helping them take down Homelander.

"Take away these powers, and what are you? Pathetic, weak, sniveling, f***ing loser."*

A-Train

Jessie T. Usher as A-Train standing with his shades on in The Boys season 5

After four seasons of fearing Homelander, A-Train finally takes a stand in season 5 and confronts Homelander head-on. While things do not ultimately end too well for him and Homelander catches him before he can escape, A-Train delivers one final line that proves he has won despite "losing." He laughs at Homelander's face even when he threatens to kill him.

While Homelander fears death and goes to extreme lengths to achieve immortality, A-Train becomes the true embodiment of a superhero when he puts his life on the line to do the right thing. His line about Homelander being nothing but pathetic and weak without his powers also perfectly foreshadows The Boys season 5's ending.

"I'll do anything. I'll suck your d***, please! I'll eat s***..."

Homelander

Antony Starr’s Homelander begging for his life in The Boys season 5’s finale

It is almost hard to believe that Homelander begs for his life in The Boys' final chapter before Billy Butcher kills him. As a viewer, you get so used to seeing him instill fear in others that you forget that, without his powers, he is probably nothing. His final line, where he desperately tries to convince Butcher to spare him, perfectly captures who he was on the inside.

As much as he tried to portray himself as a god, him begging for his life after losing his powers showed how delusional they had made him. Some viewers still argue that the sudden shift in his demeanor did not make a lot of sense. However, it seems consistent with the fact that, even when he was an overpowered supe, he wanted to achieve immortality.

"I only gave you the V1 because of Clara. Because that's what she would've wanted."

Soldier Boy

Soldier Boy's "that's what Clara would have wanted" has become one of the biggest memes that have come out of The Boys season 5. While some viewers see it as a compelling setup for the upcoming Vought Rising spinoff, others cannot help but see how it completely retcons Soldier Boy's story. Previous seasons of the show had not established any serious ties between Soldier Boy and Stormfront.

Yet, in The Boys season 5, Soldier Boy completely sheds his ego and hate for Homelander because he believes Stormfront would have wanted him to rule the world. Whether this development is nonsensical or logical is certainly debatable. But it features one of the most memorable lines from the show that will forever be associated with the franchise for both good and bad reasons.
