8 Biggest Questions After Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 8 That Need To Be Answered In 2025

2 days ago 3

Chicago Med season 10, episode 8. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" ended on a cliffhanger, leaving several big questions unresolved. The youngest One Chicago show will be part of a crossover event on January 29, but first, it needs to continue several big storylines. "Love Will Tear Us Apart" featured the return of Dr. Charles' (Oliver Platt) former psychiatric resident, Sarah Reese (Rachel DiPillo), who butted heads with him over whether a patient needed to be admitted to the hospital, but that was only one of three exciting storylines for Chicago Med's cast of characters.

The fall finale revealed Sharon's (S Epatha Merkerson) stalker, who held her hostage in her office throughout the hour-long episode. The woman was angry because she blamed Sharon for her wife's death, and Sharon was unable to talk her down. Meanwhile, Archer (Steven Weber) contemplated resignation after losing his position as ED co-chief, and it didn't appear that Hannah (Jesse Schram) was able to talk him out of it. These two storylines collided to create an exciting cliffhanger in which Sharon tried to get Archer's attention after he slipped his letter of resignation under her door.

8 Will Sharon Live?

The Final Scene Showed She Was In Bad Shape

Sharon's attacker loses her temper and stabs her with a knife, then feels bad about it. While the knife attack doesn't immediately kill Sharon, it's unclear whether she will ultimately survive. She had the strength to cling to life and continue trying to talk to the woman down, but appears to be unconscious near the end of the episode. However, that is likely a ruse, as she temporarily gets the better of her attacker after Archer comes to the office, pushing her away and crawling to the glass door between her space and the elevator bay.

All One Chicago Crossover Events, Ranked

The One Chicago franchise has had many strong crossovers between shows over the years as well as with shows in the larger Dick Wolf universe.

Despite this sudden burst of energy, however, it's clear that Sharon needs medical attention as soon as possible if she is going to live. She has lost a lot of blood and is so weak she can't walk, and it won't be long before she loses consciousness for real. Furthermore, her attacker is still in the office and could do more damage before Sharon can be rescued. This storyline could go in multiple directions, and it's not yet clear that Archer will be in time to help save Sharon's life.

7 Is Archer Really Resigning?

Saving Sharon's Life Might Give Him A Renewed Sense of Purpose

While there has been no news confirming that Steven Weber is leaving Chicago Med, Archer succeeds in delivering his letter of resignation before realizing Sharon is in trouble — that was the set-up for Sharon to overpower her attacker and signal him to get help. Thus, after the crisis passes, Archer will have to decide whether he still wants to leave the hospital. It may also be several weeks, assuming Sharon survives, before she is able to read his letter of resignation and discuss it with him.

It's possible that Archer will find a renewed sense of purpose if he is instrumental in saving Sharon's life.

This story is another one that could go either way. It's possible that Archer will find a renewed sense of purpose if he is instrumental in saving Sharon's life. This could cause him to realize he's needed at Gaffney and decide to keep working there. Alternatively, this experience could harden Archer's resolve to leave. He might blame the hospital for Sharon's attack or feel that this violent situation is an additional sign that he needs to move on.

6 How Will Lenox React To The Breach In Security?

She May Demand Serious Changes In Response To The Crisis

Sharon's attacker should not have been able to get past hospital security to enter an administrative office armed with a knife. Thus, it's clear that there need to be serious changes made at Gaffney to ensure nobody else is at risk of violence should a patient or patient's family be distraught enough to seek revenge. Lenox (Sarah Ramos) isn't empowered to make those changes on her own, but as the ED Chief, she may feel responsible for ensuring the department continues to be safe.

Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 6: Archer’s War With Lenox Emphasizes The Worst Part Of His Character

Archer's decision to wage war against Lenox in Chicago Med season 10, episode 6 highlights his worst character trait that needs to change.

Lenox has already butted heads with Archer and several doctors because she wants to make changes in how the ED is run. If she wants to tighten security, particularly if her plans are a radical departure from what has been done before, she may need to convince the board — and that could lead to an ugly battle. Her ideas might also further annoy the doctors and staff, most of whom have not been happy with other changes she has tried to institute.

5 Will Ripley/Hannah’s Relationship Survive Ripley's Feelings About Sully’s Terminal Diagnosis?

They've Already Been Through A Lot Because Of Sully

Mitchell Ripley (Luke Mitchell) and Hannah Asher's new relationship has already been put through the wringer, and most of their problems can be traced back to Ripley's unhealthy behavior when it comes to Sully (Daniel Dorr). Mitchell was willing to do anything to protect his childhood friend earlier in the season, including taking the fall for Sully beating up perpetual troublemaker Pavel (Zenon Zeleniuch). Chicago Med's Hannah and Mitchell almost broke up after Hannah intervened in this self-sabotaging decision, so there is no telling what will happen now that Sully's cancer is terminal.

Even if the fallout from Sully's diagnosis is purely emotional, it's likely to trigger old resentments for Hannah

There is little that Mitchell can do that's illegal or self-destructive in this situation, though he could imitate Natalie's (Torey Devitto) exit story from Chicago Med by giving Sully experimental drugs without enrolling him in a clinical trial, again risking his medical license for his friend's sake. However, even if the fallout from Sully's diagnosis is purely emotional, it's likely to trigger old resentments for Hannah. If it does, these feelings could tear her fragile bond with Ripley apart.

4 How Will Reese’s Anger At Charles Affect Both Of Them Moving Forward?

Reese Left Again, But She Might Be Back

Reese was the first former Chicago Med character to return to Gaffney Medical Center in season 10. She and Charles were initially civil toward each other despite the animosity between them when she originally left in season 4, but unfortunately, that didn't last. When Reese admitted to Charles she was giving a patient placebos instead of the anti-anxiety drugs they thought they were taking, she and Charles argued over whether her behavior was ethical, and their conflict came to a head when Charles committed Reese's patient to the mental ward on the grounds that she was a danger to herself.

Why Dr, Charles' ex-mentee, Sarah Reese, is returning to Chicago Med season 10 six years after she left Gaffney Medical Center after feeling betrayed.

Although Charles kicked Reese out of the hospital, that doesn't mean that's the last time she will return. She might sue Charles or otherwise seek revenge, and since she works at another hospital in the area she might be forced to return if other patients of hers end up at Gaffney. While it's unclear whether Reese will be a semi-regular part of the medical drama moving forward, it would give Charles an interesting storyline if he continued to butt heads with her after her patient goes home.

3 How Will Sharon’s Attack Affect The Residents And Staff?

It Could Be A Traumatic Experience For Many

Chicago Med Sharon and Dennis stand by the nurses' station talking

Sharon's attack will be upsetting for her family and friends. Her son and daughter might return to the hospital and her new boyfriend, Dennis Washington (John Earl Jelks) will certainly be distraught. If the worst happens, someone will also have to try to explain to Bert (Gregory Alan Williams), who may or may not understand because of his advanced cognitive decline. While these scenes will undoubtedly be powerful, residents and other staff might be affected as strongly as Sharon's family.

Many of the staff might be shaken by the fact that violence so easily happened at the hospital.

If Sharon lives long enough to receive medical treatment, residents and full doctors will likely both be involved in her care. Thus, they might feel additional pressure because they are treating their boss rather than a random patient, and residents such as Kai (Devin Kawaoka) or medical students like Naomi (Ashlei Sharpe Chestnut) might beat themselves up over any perceived imperfections in their treatment plan. Additionally, many of the staff might be shaken by the fact that violence so easily happened at the hospital, which could lead to some fascinating stories.

2 Will Lenox Ultimately Remain As The Head of The ED?

Her Fight For It May Not Be Over Yet

Lenox and Archer have been fighting for control of the hospital since Lenox's arrival, and she appears to have won — for now. Sharon demoted Archer after he threatened to quit if Lenox wasn't removed from the position, which makes Lenox solely responsible for running the ED, but that's a lot of responsibility that she may realize is not worth the emotional toll it takes on her. If Archer decides not to resign, he may try again to get the ED Chief position for himself. Even if this does not come to pass, Lenox's future is still an open question.

Lenox is taking charge at a time when morale may be at an all-time low because of Sharon's attack.

She is not popular with the staff, and Archer's presence as co-chief limited her power to implement ideas that the doctors wouldn't appreciate. Additionally, Lenox is taking charge at a time when morale may be at an all-time low because of Sharon's attack. Thus, she may find it difficult to continue with this job. Conversely, she might decide to stick it out because she believes in what she's doing and doesn't care about how others feel about her.

1 What Other Characters Will Return From Med’s Past?

Reese Is Not The Only One Slated To Return, But The Others' Identities Are A Mystery

Crockett Marcel in Chicago Med

Showrunner Allen Macdonald has teased that several characters will return to Chicago Med. Although there is no news confirming any specific character, there are several who could return. The upcoming One Chicago crossover as well as a few other storylines offer the opportunity for departed characters to visit. For example, Sharon recently gave Hannah permission to work in a mobile unit to ensure lower-income women get the OBGYN services they need; Ethan (Brian Tee) and April (Yaya DeCosta) left Gaffney to create a similar mobile service and thus could return as part of this storyline.

The second half of Chicago Med season 10 will premiere on NBC on January 8, 2025 at 8 PM ET and be available to stream on Peacock the next day.

Chicago Med has not yet written a story that could give fan-favorite Crockett Marcel (Dominique Rains) a reason to return for a visit. However, Sharon's attack could conceivably bring back several departed characters who used to work for her. Whether there is a funeral or a long recovery period, Sharon's former employees and friends could head back to Gaffney when they learn about her fate.
