WARNING: SPOILERS FROM DRAGON BALL SUPER'S GRANOLAH ARC

Since the iconic Goku and Vegeta were introduced, the Dragon Ball franchise has hit its most exciting potential when it introduces a powerful new threat that forces the heroes to evolve. While most of those opponents fall to the power-ups that they accidentally put into motion, there are several characters introduced (and reintroduced) in Dragon Ball Super that are frankly too powerful for either Saiyan to handle on their own.

Follow-ups to the Dragon Ball Z plotlines introduced several characters that were not only so powerful that they required several fighters to team up for victory, but a few of them are essentially immortal. Not only can a few of them not be killed through traditional means, but they also hold levels of power that could potentially wipe out entire solar systems and even universes without much effort, feats that no Saiyan has entertained in the franchise's canon material.

Events that have transpired after Dragon Ball Super's epic Tournament of Power have forced Goku and Vegeta to experiment with new transformations while gaining greater control of divine energies. Still, the most entertaining foes the Dragon Ball franchise has produced in this decade are only a few of the characters Goku and Vegeta can't currently defeat on their own.

7 Broly Is Truly A Warrior Worthy Of Legend

Broly was a fan-favorite for many long-time Dragon Ball Z fans thanks to his comedically overpowered introduction in the non-canon movie: Dragon Ball Z: The Legendary Super Saiyan. He was so popular that the franchise decided to reintroduce him in the Dragon Ball Super canon. While he wasn't shown deleting an entire galaxy, the new version of Broly is no pushover and would have been a valuable asset in the perilous Tournament of Power.

Despite a lack of experience, Broly's talent for fighting and natural ability to grow his power level in battle far surpass both Goku and Vegeta. While Goku is a fighting genius in his own right, the speed at which Broly evolved during his clashes in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly film was on another level. It took the Super Saiyan Blue form of the fusion Gogeta to defeat Broly in his most emotional and hulked-out form. After some training, he may someday learn to control that power that even the God of Destruction Beerus hasn't been able to ignore.

6 Granolah's Wish To Be The Strongest Came With A Cost

Dragon Ball Super Granolah Goku and Vegeta

The last surviving member of the Cerealian race named Granolah was a young bounty hunter hungry for revenge against the Saiyan race and Frieza. That hate led him to wish on Dragon Balls to become the universe's strongest warrior. The particular request came at a cost of Granolah's lifespan being dramatically shortened to only three more years, granting him the power boost those lost years could have potentially given him.

That Dragon Ball power boost did just as requested, and made Granolah stronger than both Goku and Vegeta, even when they were in their newest divine transformations, Ultra Ego and True Ultra Instinct. Besides his incredible durability and physical strength, Granolah is an extremely capable sniper with high levels of perception, able to zero in and strike opponents' vital points, even from long distances. He pushed the two Saiyan heroes to their limits, then teamed up with them to face a foe who outclassed them all, but had even less time than Granolah.

5 Gas Proved To Be More Than A Pain In The Gut

A degenerate crime family known as the Heeter's had worked to improve their reputation in their part of the universe for decades, using their young enforcer Gas for their most violent tasks. As he grew up, he became more feared, arrogant, and hungry for bloodshed. While his considerable skills were still not close to besting the likes of Galactic Emperor Frieza, that all changed when his ruthless brother Elec wished upon Dragon Balls to make him the strongest warrior in the universe, outclassing even Granolah.

Gas was incredibly confident in his own abilities, and for a very good reason. Even before the Dragon Ball's cosmic boost in power, the enforcer was capable of manifesting nearly any weapon he could imagine out of thin air. His skills were showcased with an impressive variety of weaponry, and even extremely heavy weights that he could spawn on his enemies to throw them off. However, the combined effort of Goku, Vegeta, and Granolah was able to push him to unleash his full power, which was able to overpower the Saiyan's teaming up in their newest god forms.

4 Black Frieza Has Put The Galactic Tyrant Back On Top

Black Frieza as seen in Dragon Ball Super

The franchise has seen its share of entertaining villains, but Frieza is arguably Dragon Ball's best antagonist. After his defeat at the hands of Super Saiyan Goku, his power level that was once feared across the universe was surpassed by many warriors who faced the Z warriors. After suffering years in hell, the Galactic Tyrant was resurrected by loyal subordinates with a new sense of purpose and restrained arrogance that helped Frieza understand that even he would need training to keep up with the Saiyan’s that bested him.

Training unlocked the Golden Frieza form, but his arrogance again led to another defeat by not learning the limitations of his new power-up. After being revived again, Frieza took his commitment to training to the next level after discovering a location in space that allowed him to train for ten whole years in a fraction of the time. This unlocked the Black Frieza transformation that arrived with a bang near the end of the Granolah arc, an entrance that saw Gas obliterated, as well as Goku and Vegeta defeated with a single blow.

3 The Gods of Destruction Destroy Dragon Ball's Power Scaling

The introduction of God of Destruction Beerus unlocked a cosmic level for Goku and Vegeta's power ceilings to strive for. Throughout Dragon Ball Super's arcs, both have come closer to godly levels of power, but neither has yet to reach a level of strength that has inspired the often tired god to request a rematch since their fights in the series' first arc.

Beerus belongs to a class of beings who live for millions of years and reign over their respective universes with destructive force capable of erasing planets and even solar systems in seconds without breaking a sweat. Unfortunately, the true extent of how powerful The Gods of Destruction are has only been told and not shown because the franchise has yet to showcase a threat that's made Beerus or another God go all out. That information comes from reliable sources: the Angels, who are even stronger than the Gods of Destruction.

2 The Angels Of Dragon Ball Redefine Divine Powers

In Dragon Ball Z: The Battle of Gods, long-time fans were delighted to see the return of several of their favorite characters and a new threat the entire movie aura farmed. Beerus was so impressed with Goku that he let Earth continue, but arguably the biggest and best surprise of the movie was the very end. After returning to his home, the God of Destruction went on a wasabi-induced rampage but was quickly knocked out with a single blow from his angel attendant Whis.

Power Level Scanned Your Dragon Ball Identity

👊

Goku

“I am the hope of the universe. I am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace.” You’re a pure-hearted warrior who lives for the thrill of the fight. Every challenge is an opportunity, every enemy a potential friend, and every defeat just fuel to come back stronger. People are drawn to your infectious optimism and unbreakable spirit, even when your naivety drives them crazy. You’d give your last Senzu Bean to a stranger and charge headfirst into a battle you can’t win — not because you’re reckless, but because you genuinely believe that pushing past your limits is the only way to grow. Like Goku, your greatest power isn’t your ki — it’s your ability to inspire everyone around you to be better.

Pure-Hearted Fearless Limitless Inspiring

👑

Vegeta

“I do not fear this new challenge. Rather like a true warrior, I will rise to meet it.” You carry yourself with the pride of royalty and the ferocity of a born warrior. Second place is not in your vocabulary, and you’d rather break your body than your spirit. People might call you arrogant, but beneath that iron exterior lies someone who has learned to fight not just for themselves, but for the people they’ve quietly grown to love. Your journey is one of evolution — from cold-blooded conqueror to Earth’s fiercest protector — and every scar you carry is proof that pride and love can coexist. Like Vegeta, you don’t just want to be the strongest — you need to earn it on your own terms.

Proud Relentless Fierce Evolving

🧘

Piccolo

“Sometimes, we have to look beyond what we want and do what’s best.” You’re the one everyone depends on when things fall apart — the calm center in the middle of chaos. While others charge in recklessly or let their ego do the talking, you see the bigger picture and make the hard calls that need making. You didn’t choose to care about people, but somewhere along the way it happened, and now you’d sacrifice everything for those you’ve taken under your wing. Stoic on the surface, deeply loyal underneath, you’re the mentor, the strategist, and the last line of defense all in one. Like Piccolo, your true strength is wisdom — and the courage to do what’s right even when no one is watching.

The anime and manga have delved further into the power dynamic of Beerus and Whis. As more about the attendant and his fellow Angels was revealed, the more impossible it felt that Goku and Vegeta would ever be able to come close to the level that the deities have operated for millions, maybe even billions of years. As untouchable as Whis has proven to be, according to them, he is still a mere child compared to his father, the Grand Priest. While he's never been shown in action, his presence is enough to make Beerus quake, but there is one who is even scarier.

1 The Omni-King of the Multiverse Breaks All The Rules And Expectations

There are sections of the considerable Dragon Ball fanbase that like to forget how much of a comedy the franchise can be; this is extremely apparent with the identity of the Dragon Ball franchise's strongest character of all time: Grand Zeno, The Omni-King. The God who rules above all of the Gods of Destruction and the Angels takes the form of a short, blue and purple rounded alien with a child-like demeanor that exudes innocence. The unassuming form becomes absolutely terrifying when it's revealed that the King of All can erase entire universes on a whim and with a smile.

Long ago, there were once 18 universes until Grand Zeno threw a small tantrum; then there were only 12 universes. That level of overwhelming power is clearly enough to cause the Angels and the Gods of Destruction to bend to their every desire. Thankfully, those desires have primarily stemmed from a friendly nature that took quite a liking to Goku's also kind nature. Still, when a character can blink everything out of existence, Goku and Vegeta's power levels and divine transformations mean nothing against Dragon Ball's most powerful character.
