The epic story that is told in both The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, is such a powerful one, with so much happening that it doesn't necessarily need a DLC. However, giving players any opportunity to keep going in that world would be happily appreciated. Tears of the Kingdom ends at such a powerful resolution for the main narrative, but there are still so many things that could be done.

Currently, there are no announced plans for Tears of the Kingdom to release any kind of expansion content. In fact, developers of the game have even stated that they feel they've already done everything they can to add to it, confirming that they are not working on any DLC.

That being said, there are still many ways that a Tears of the Kingdom DLC could work. Fans of the game would certainly love to dive back into this version of Hyrule and see what could come next for everyone that we've come to know and love. Not to mention, there are many areas of the map that could be developed further. Even if a DLC doesn't offer as impressive a story as the main campaign of BOTW and TOTK, just having a little more to do would be exciting.

A Conclusion For Some Of The NPC Stories

Purah in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

NPCs in The Legend of Zelda series are dynamic and interesting characters in nearly every game. In BOTW and TOTK this is perhaps even more true than ever, with many of these fantastic friends and allies, or even just random citizens of Hyrule, bringing so much depth and life to the games.

Despite the color that these quirky NPCs add, many of them are left with unresolved stories, or we are simply not given as much information about them as we would like.

  • Aurie Taamu is an unseen source of significant gossip from authoring cookbooks and being involved in a love triangle, but although he lives in Hyrule, we never meet him.
  • What happened to the Rito bard, Kass, to make him disappear after BOTW? Where is he now?
  • How are Cece and Reede doing after the Hateno Village elections?
  • Does Mattison do okay in her new life in Gerudo Town after leaving her parents, Hudson and Rhondson?

These are just a few of the minor NPCs who we'd like to know more about, but then there's also the important characters. Zelda fans would love to get more information and lore on Impa, Purah, Tulin, Sidon, and everyone else who has impacted the story of Tears of the Kingdom in such meaningful ways.

Allow Us To Help Rebuild Hyrule

After Ganon's destruction of so much of Hyrule, we know that there are efforts by many of the NPCs to rebuild. All through Tears of the Kingdom, NPCs are busy with these endeavors, and even Princess Zelda is hard at work on the reconstruction project of Hateno School.

So much of Tears of the Kingdom focuses on building things using the Ultrahand, in fact, it's hard to play the game without giving in to the need to craft vehicles and unique objects to solve problems. Often, these creations by fans could get rather silly, but it was still all such a large part of the game that it seems a missed opportunity not to include some way to rebuild Hyrule.

We may no longer have the Ultrahand at our disposal, but there are plenty of ways to incorporate minigames to help with construction or even dangerous quests to go out and find resources.

Adding A Master Mode Difficulty

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild gave players the option to purchase an Expansion Pass that offered two content packs in it. One of these was The Master Trials DLC, which added several ways to make things more difficult in the game. Among these added features was the Master Mode. Master Mode was a harder difficulty for more advanced players, making enemies higher level, giving them color tiers to indicate even stronger versions, giving enemies health regeneration, and even making the enemies smarter at detecting Link.

It even put more enemies in some areas, such as Lynels in the Great Plateau and Sky Octoroks. While this made things much more challenging, by design, the mode also gave new Treasure Chests that could be floating in the sky on planks that are being held by those Sky Octoroks.

For players who love TOTK to the point that they want to replay the game, perhaps multiple times, giving this upgraded challenge can make the experience feel new and breathe new life into the experience.

A Prologue For The Next Game

We don't have any confirmation that a sequel to Tears of the Kingdom is going to be happening, but it does seem likely that there will be a new 3D Zelda game announced sometime soon. If that's the case, it would be absolutely incredible if Nintendo made a DLC for TOTK that acted as a bit of a prologue for the next game.

Even if it was only loosely connected, some quests that would introduce the story of the next title or perhaps Link meeting a new character from another timeline. Although this would certainly be a bit of a stretch, it's not like we've never had anyone in The Legend of Zelda time travel or go to alternate dimensions before, and it would help to build up the hype and marketing as the new game is in development.

Create More In The Depths

The massive underground map known as The Depths are a very unique and interesting concept, offering a whole new level for players to explore. It offers a new perspective as you see the ghosts of Ganon's victims while in the dark and dreary caverns. Unfortunately, the area has always felt like a missed opportunity.

There is really very little unique content in The Depths. A DLC for the area could expand the area to include mini-dungeons that players could come across and explore, perhaps even with new side quests inside with Hylians to save or objects to return to owners. The bleakness of The Depths also provides a playground where developers could hide classic Zelda Easter eggs, perhaps showing how prior generations have fallen into ruins in The Depths.

Each of these possibilities, and a plethora of other creative ideas that many fans have come up with, show that there is still so much potential to be had in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
