Today, at Nintendo Direct June 2026's showcase, we finally got another look at Kingdom Hearts 4. Yes, it's real, and yes, it looks like development is progressing well.

This comes after a new illustration was published to celebrate the 24th anniversary of Kingdom Hearts earlier this year. That announcement seemed to tease the fact that we'd have to wait a year for more information - but, it seems, that turned out not to be true.

"KINGDOM HEARTS IV is coming to Nintendo Switch 2 and will be available day and date at launch!" says a blurb for the trailer. Not much other information is available in text, but you can certainly pick up some hints about what's to come from the footage. For my two cents, it seems we're going to get Final Fantasy Versus 13 at long last, in essence. It can't just be me that sees that, right?

There is still no release date - not even a release window - for the game, so I wouldn't expect it any time soon.

Kingdom Hearts fans, of course, have been waiting patiently for official communications about the long-awaited Kingdom Hearts 4 ever since it was announced as part of the series' 20th anniversary back in 2022, with very little info coming out about the game in the years following.

In 2025, director Tetsuya Nomura said that both Kingdom Hearts 4 and Final Fantasy 7 Revelation were making "great progress". And rightly so, since it seems Nomura would like to retire when he finally sees the conclusion of this series take place.
