The Perfect Celebration of 'Kingdom Come's 30th Anniversary
It may seem like just yesterday that Mark Waid and Alex Ross joined forces to create Kingdom Come, the dystopian (yet hopeful) vision of the DC Universe's future, if the old guard of heroes allowed hope to be lost. The comic book itself was regarded as one of the greatest DC Comics of all time almost since it was first released, and has only grown in acclaim since then. And to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the book's release, Alex Ross has shared the unthinkable to social media: his iconic artwork of the Kingdom Come Superman, digitally animated into live-action.
As the caption to the post makes clear, this is not a case of an AI being used to bring a still image to life, so those who would prefer Alex Ross' art remain untouched can rest easy. In which case, the integrity with which Ross' style is maintained in this adaptation is truly impressive. Fans may not have dared to hope for a real Kingdom Come movie in their lifetime, let alone one that could somehow look like the actual Ross artwork. A 'pinch me' moment for all Ross and Superman fans, if there ever was one.

This video may only be seconds long in duration, but it will be more than enough to get the wheels turning for devoted DC and Ross fans. The future of the DC Universe on film and television is about as uncertain as it ever has been over the past decade, but with uncertainy comes opportunity. Could this be enough of a pitch to make an Alex Ross-styled Kingdom Come animation project more than a pipe dream? Whether a TV show, a web series, or a long-shot feature film adaptation, there is no question about the kind of demand and attention such a release would garner.
Whatever the future may hold for this or any other version of Superman, this proves that with the right creative team involved, a new vision of the Man of Steel in live-action can excite the world like little else.
