2025 was a big year for Tom Cruise, who played Ethan Hunt for the last time in Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning. Cruise’s career began with mostly original roles, but in the last few years, it’s been all franchise work, including playing Pete Mitchell again in Top Gun: Maverick. It’s been confirmed that he’ll return to the role of the legendary pilot in a third Top Gun movie, but Cruise has other projects in the works to prioritize before he takes to the skies once more. Later this year, he’ll star in his first original action movie in nine years with Digger, which comes from Alejandro G. Iñárittu. The film co-stars other major figures like Jesse Plemons (Bugonia) and Emma D’Arcy (House of the Dragon).
One of Cruise’s original signature roles came 30 years ago in Jerry Maguire, the drama following a highly successful sports agent who is stripped of his wealth and title, leading him to go out into the industry with only his top client. Cuba Gooding Jr. co-stars alongside Cruise in the film as his famous client, and he even won an Oscar for his performance in the film. Cameron Crowe wrote and directed Jerry Maguire, which earned scores of 84% from critics and 79% from audiences on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. The film was a gamble considering its $50 million budget, but it proved to be worth it when it grossed over $270 million at the box office. Cruise also earned an Oscar nomination for his performance as the titular character, and Cameron Crowe’s script, which took four years to write, earned an Oscar nod.
30 Years Later, ‘Jerry Maguire’ Is Having a Moment on Streaming
In America, Jerry Maguire is streaming primarily on MGM+, but the film frequently airs on both TNT and TBS. Globally, however, Jerry Maguire recently began streaming on HBO Max, where the film has smashed into the top 10 in more than 15 countries around the world. While Jerry Maguire hasn’t reached the pinnacle of HBO Max streaming charts, it is battling in the #7-#9 range with other films like Lucy, the forgotten sci-fi film starring Scarlett Johansson. HBO also has plenty of popular TV programming on the air right now, like The Pitt, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and Industry.
Check out Jerry Maguire on MGM+ in America, and stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates.
