25 years later, Disney is finally making a sequel to Atlantis: The Lost Empire, and it looks nothing short of amazing. While Atlantis is a major cult classic and often considered one of the most unique and all-around great Disney films, because the film was a box-office bomb, it’s been largely ignored by Disney since its premiere, with the most attention it's received being a failed pilot for a proposed TV spinoff.

Everything We Know About Atlantis: The Lost Empire’s Sequel

Cover for The Curse of Kurok

According to the official summary for Atlantis: The Lost Empire — The Curse of Kurok, sometime after the original movie, Milo and Kida must protect Atlantis from a monstrous threat, and as they do, they uncover more secrets of Atlantis’ past that could be necessary for securing their future. That’s not an incredible amount to go off of, but at the very least, it’s clear that The Curse of Kurok’s story feels like a natural extension of the original Atlantis: The Lost Empire film.

As for how this connects to the original Atlantis sequel, Atlantis: Milo’s Return, with there being no mention of Milo’s friends or any of the supernatural events from the film, Milo’s Return will likely be considered non-canon, especially with how widely unpopular the film was. Fortunately, The Curse of Kurok is set up to be a far better sequel story, and it will be great to see how it all plays out when the book releases this October.
