The summer solstice may have been on June 20 this year, but it really starts to feel like summer when the long Fourth of July weekend finally arrives. Though we're spending more time outdoors basking in the sun, we still have plenty of time to test new beauty products, and July is about to produce quite the haul.
Summer is in full swing, and so are the new and exciting seasonal beauty launches. In the hair, skin, makeup, body, and fragrance categories, brands have been turning out new and improved formulations, and we're impressed. From glowy facial sunscreen formulas that are actually enjoyable to apply to citrus perfumes that smell like summer in a bottle and hair products that finally smooth that veil of frizz we're so prone to getting, there's something for everyone.
Whether you're looking to do some shopping before you head out on vacation (hopefully to somewhere tropical) or you just like to keep tabs on what's new and hot in the beauty industry (we can relate), there are plenty of new beauty launches to stock up on. PS editors have already found some of the best new hair, makeup, skin, and body products for the month. Keep reading to find some of our favorite product picks for July.

Best SPF
Merit The Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 45 ($38)
"As someone who doesn't like wearing foundation or a lot of base makeup, tinted sunscreens are my jam. The new Merit The Uniform Tinted Mineral Sunscreen is a light mineral formula that's noncomedogenic and offers SPF 45 protection with a sheer natural finish. It feels like I'm barely wearing anything on my face, which is a sign of a good sunscreen to me." — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

Best Retinol
Rest Religion Retinal Skin Restoring Serum ($91)
"My skin is pretty sensitive to retinols, but this serum from Rest Religion is one of the most gentle formulas I've come across. The serum pairs encapsulated retinal and bio-retinol with soothing ingredients like niacinamide and panthenol to limit dryness and irritation. And so far, it has left my skin feeling softer and firmer after just two weeks of consistent use." — Alida Araica, newsletter manager

Best Acne Serum
Murad Biome-Balancing Clear and Prevent Acne Treatment Solution ($45)
"I've been struggling with hormonal acne for years, and it wasn't until I got on an oral medication that things finally started to clear up. I still get the occasional blemish during my period or when I use products that don't agree with my skin, but this serum has been great for keeping pesky pimples at bay. It doesn't dry out my skin, and it helps keep my texture looking even and clear." — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer

Best Face Oil
Glowissima Miracle Elixir Face Oil ($64)
"I don't use face oils all that often since I have normal to oily skin, but this one from the newly launched brand Glowissima is something I'll be using until further notice. It's made with key ingredients like jojoba, rosehip, and marula oils that work to strengthen the skin's barrier and help fade dark spots. And it does just that and more for my skin." — Naomi Parris, assistant editor, Shopping

Best Face Mist
Cocokind Calming Magnesium Facial Mist ($18)
"This new fragrance-free facial mist has become my go-to toner because it's gentle on sensitive skin and helps reduce redness. Hero ingredients like magnesium and biosaccharide help to support the skin's barrier, while polylysine calms even the most reactive and acne-prone skin. When I sprayed the superfine mist on my slightly sunburned skin, there was no stinging or further irritation, which goes to show just how soothing the formula truly is." — Alida Araica, newsletter manager

Best Cleansing Oil
Kosas Plump + Juicy Cleansing Oil ($48)
"I'm a recent cleansing-oil convert after trying Kosas's new Plump + Juicy Double Cleansing System. I've been using waterproof mascara a lot this summer, and this oil makes even the toughest mascara slide right off. Another plus? It hydrates my skin a bit before going in with a gel cleanser that on its own would leave my skin feeling stripped and dry." — Alida Araica, newsletter manager

Best Cream Eyeshadow
Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Long-Wearing Cream Eyeshadow ($25)
"As far as I'm concerned, this is the must-try launch of the month. Mario Sedivanovic, the founder of Makeup By Mario and Kim Kardashian's makeup artist, just came out with the Master Mattes Long-Wearing Cream Eyeshadow. It comes in 10 shades, has a soft matte finish, and buildable coverage that dries down quickly. The doe-foot applicator makes it easy to apply directly to your lids and blend with your fingers or a brush (I prefer the former). The pigment is crease-, smear-, transfer-proof, and resistant to water and sweat. I put these claims to the test during a 16-hour day outside in a heatwave, and I didn't experience any movement. It looked just as good as when I first applied it." — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

Best Lip Liner
Pat McGrath Legendary Longwear Lip Pencil ($29)
"Whether I'm rocking a full face of makeup or not, wearing lip liner is a must for me. And the perfect one exists, thanks to Pat McGrath. I tried my go-to shade (Divine Brown) and even ventured out to red, and when I say it does not budge, please believe me. The pencil locks in color for up to eight hours, and it does just that, so I never had to reapply throughout the day." — Naomi Parris, assistant editor, Shopping

Best Lip Balm
Milk Makeup Balmade Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm ($18)
"This summer, there's no excuse to have dry lips with all of the new products that have hit the market over the last few months. The Milk Makeup Balmade Hydrating Tinted Lip Balm is a hybrid between a gloss and a balm, offering deep hydration with a gloss-like finish. It comes in seven shades (including clear), and gives your lips a wash of sheer, jelly-like color." — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

Best Primer
Anastasia Beverly Hills Hydra Prime SPF 50 Hydrating Face Primer ($48)
"I thought I found the perfect primer until I came across this one from Anastasia Beverly Hills. I recently wore it on what might have been the hottest day of June, and it gave me a seamless glow, even through extreme temperatures. It's so lightweight and keeps my skin feeling moisturized all day, thanks to ingredients like beet root and niacinamide. I'm completely obsessed." — Naomi Parris, assistant editor, Shopping

Best Lip Tint
Violette_FR Lip Nectar Hydrating Lip Stain ($29)
"I love the convenience of a lip stain, but as a gloss girl, I often find them to be too drying. If you feel the same, the Violette_FR Lip Nectar Hydrating Lip Stain is here to solve that problem. It's a long-wearing, hydrating formula with the pigment and staying power of a stain but the high-shine finish of a gloss or oil. One swipe gives you sheer color, but you're able to build it up with multiple coats to make the color more intense. It comes in four shades — Rose de Moab, a warm caramel, and Bêtise, a warm berry, are my favorites. " — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

Best Body Scrub
Dove Beauty Exfoliating Body Scrub White Peach & Crushed Rice ($9)
"Repeat after me: if you want smooth skin, you need to exfoliate. I love using body scrubs to remove dead skin cells and dry patches, whether I'm prepping for self-tanner application or just completing my routine body-care regimen. The Dove Beauty Exfoliating Body Scrub has a whipped, creamy texture that leaves skin feeling soft and moisturized. It comes in multiple scents, but white peach is my favorite." — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

I promise you won't be able to leave the house without at least one person asking what smells so good." — Renee Rodriguez, staff writer and social producer

Best Face & Body Cream
Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Face & Body Moisturizing Cream ($10)
"Body moisturizer may seem like a boring category, but when you get your hands on a really good one, you know. When I tested the Neutrogena Ultra Gentle Daily Face & Body Moisturizing Cream for the first time, it became an instant favorite of mine. It has a lightweight, bouncy consistency that absorbs into skin quickly but leaves behind a veil of silky hydration. I went through the entire extra-large tub in two weeks." — Jessica Harrington, senior beauty editor

Plus, the oil's Beach Club scent features notes of neroli, orange flower, and driftwood that smell so good, it may become your new favorite fragrance to sport at the pool (and beyond)." — Alida Araica, newsletter manager

Best Body Wash
Olly Calm Mood and Skin Vitamin-Infused Body Wash ($15)

Best Perfume
Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa 39 Hair & Body Perfume Mist ($25)
"It can be hard at times to find the right summer fragrance that combats environmental elements like intense humidity and the smell of hot rain (especially in New York), and that's where Sol de Janeiro comes in. They recently released the coveted Cheirosa 39 scent that contains notes of tropical gourmand, whipped coconut cream, tropical orchid, toasted praline, and my personal favorite — vanilla. And trust me, it definitely lasts. It's one of the top fragrances in my current summer rotation." — Naomi Parris, assistant editor, Shopping
