The range held by Tom Hardy is something we simply can’t overlook. Whether it be a struggling soldier in movies like Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down and Christopher Nolan’s Dunkirk, a supervillain in the latter’s The Dark Knight Rises, a superhero in the Venom franchise, or one of the most lusted-after characters ever in ITV’s version of Wuthering Heights, the man knows how to nail a role. And, while we love his penchant for dipping in and out of the rivaling worlds of DC and Marvel, we have to say that Hardy perfectly captures the role of a gangster every time he lands a gig in the genre.
Whether it’s for the big or small screen, Hardy pours his all into any sort of tough guy role that comes his way. Audiences absolutely loved him in Peaky Blinders as Alfie Solomons, who so frequently clashed with Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby, and have also eaten up the level of talent he brought to the first (and soon-to-be second) season of Ronan Bennett’s MobLand. Then, there’s his similar work on the big screen, which includes favorites like Jeff Nichols’ The Bikeriders, John Hillcoat’s Lawless, and Josh Trank’s Capone. But, one of Hardy’s more intense crime drama roles may have slipped under your radar.
Helmed by Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive), the 2008 biographical drama Bronson saw Hardy take on one of his most demanding roles yet when he transformed into notorious criminal Charles Bronson. Slated for an arrival on Tubi on April 1, you can soon stream the movie completely free of charge. As one might expect from the filmmaker behind movies like Drive and Only God Forgives, Bronson isn’t your typical bioflick and instead takes audiences on a trippy journey through the life of the infamous inmate. Hardy is a force to be reckoned with in the production as he largely carries the tale on his shoulders, but the story is filled out by supporting performances from the likes of Matt King (Peep Show), Kelly Adams (Hustle), James Lance (Ted Lasso), and Amanda Burton (The Commander).

On Rotten Tomatoes, the title sits with the Certified Fresh critics’ score of 75% and an audience approval rating of 74%, making it a must-see for anyone who appreciates what Hardy brings to the craft.
