17 Most Powerful X-Men Heroes Who Aren't Actually Mutants

1 month ago 25

The X-Men are famously a team of mutant heroes who fight for equality between humans and homo superior. However, while iconic members like Cyclops, Iceman and Storm may be mutants, with incredible powers granted by the X-gene, the same can't be said for every member of the X-Men and their various spin-off teams. In fact, there are plenty of non-homo superior heroes who have earned membership on the X-Men.

Here are the 17 most powerful X-Men members who aren't homo superior. While some may be considered 'mutants' of their own alien species, these are beings who don't possess the X-gene, and are considered aliens, human mutates, or even androids rather than what Marvel traditionally calls 'mutants.'

17 Juston Seyfert and His Sentinel/Tom Skylark and Rover

A Powerless Kid With a VERY Powerful Sidekick

Juston Seyfert and Tom Skylark have suspiciously similar stories - both human kids who discover and fix up a damaged Sentinel, winning the mutant-killing robot's respect and turning it into a force for good by reprogramming it for heroic ends. The big difference is in time period - Juston Seyfert exists in Marvel's present, whereas Skylark is a member of the future X-Men shown in Grant Morrison and Marc Silvestri's iconic New X-Men #151. Given the generational differences and the similarities between Juston's Sentinel and Tom's 'Rover,' fans have speculated that it's the same Sentinel, passed down from one human master to another.

In their original appearances, both Juston and Tom lack any powers of their own, though both have customized their Sentinels for maximum firepower. However, Juston Seyfert recently reappeared in Sentinels #4 (from Alex Paknadel and Justin Mason), having become a half-Sentinel cyborg.

16 Puck, aka Eugene Judd

Alpha Flight's Acrobatic Hero Also Joined X-Force

Best known as a heroic member of Alpha Flight and longtime ally of mutantkind, Puck officially joined X-Force in Uncanny X-Force Volume 2, from Sam Humphries and Ron Garney. Puck is a human mutate (a non-mutant superhuman) who possesses enhanced speed, strength, reflexes and agility, as well as having his lifespan extended by supernatural means. An expert martial artist, Puck is an incredibly skilled fighter and accomplished adventurer.

15 Hepzibah

Starjammers' Alien Rebel Has Also Helped Out Mutantkind

A Mephitisoid alien, Hepzibah is a rebel hero and a key member of the Starjammers, often entering into conflict with the sprawling Shi'ar Empire. Hepzibah is the lover of Cyclops' father Corsair and often visits Earth alongside him, but has also served on the rosters of both the X-Men and X-Force, helping to fight the Reavers, Cyclops' evil brother Vulcan, and the Avengers (during the epic AvX event.) Compared to humans, Hepzibah possesses enhanced senses and increased speed and ability, and can also manipulate others via pheromones.

14 Broo

The King of the Brood Species Is a Former X-Men Student

A member of the predatory alien species known as the Brood, Broo is a 'mutant' of his species since he possesses higher-level intelligence that allows him to resist his predatory instincts. Discovered by the X-Men, Broo was recruited to the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning at a time when the school was actively expanding its non-homo superior student body. Broo's genius has helped the X-Men on many occasions, and he recently received a major power-up after eating a Brood King Egg, which gave him empathetic control over the vast majority of the Brood species.

13 Warbird, aka Ava'Dara Naganandini

The Shi'ar Warrior Joined the X-Men With a Very Specific Mission

A warrior from the alien race known as the Shi'ar, Warbird is an expert warrior whose avian physiology gives her enhanced strength and stamina. Technically the bodyguard of Kid Gladiator - who joined the X-Men to study at Wolverine's Jean Grey School for Higher Learning - Warbird fought alongside the mutant faculty against enemies including the Marauders and Exodus. Warbird's time on Earth allowed her to explore her passion for art - something which was discouraged by Shi'ar culture.

12 Lockheed

Kitty Pryde's Pet Dragon Is an Alien Secret Agent

An alien being whose biology is similar to that of a small dragon, Lockheed has long been considered the pet of phasing mutant Kitty Pryde. A loyal friend, Lockheed was later revealed to have the same level of sentience as a human, working with the government group S.W.O.R.D. as an embedded agent. Lockheed can breathe powerful fire and has empathetic powers similar to telepathy. As well as fighting alongside the X-Men, Lockheed is a founding member of the Pet Avengers - a group of animal and animal-like heroes who have taken on Thanos in the past.

Here are the 30 gods, mutants, sorcerers and robots that currently hold the top spot when it comes to power in the Marvel Universe.

11 Mimic, aka Calvin Rankin

This Human Mutate Has the Original X-Men's Powers

Calvin Rankin's Mimic first gained powers after being exposed to his father's experiments, debuting in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's X-Men #19 with the powers of the original five X-Men - Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel and the Beast. Mimic also has the ability to copy the powers of mutants in his vicinity, although in that case they aren't permanent.

While Mimic is technically powerful, he lacks confidence in his abilities and has never lived up to his potential. This is in contrast to the alternate-universe version of the hero fans know from the Exiles franchise. This Mimic is a version of Calvin who joined the X-Men after their early conflict, going on to become one of Earth's foremost heroes in his own reality.

10 Longshot

Mojoworld's Genetically Engineered Clone

Likely to be the most controversial entry on this list, Longshot was introduced as a genetically engineered humanoid created in the dimension known as Mojoworld. Originally believed to be a human mutate, it's since been revealed that Longshot is an altered clone of the mutant warrior Shatterstar, who is his biological son (the two exist in a time loop.) Longshot isn't a perfect clone of Shatterstar, raising the question of how much he can be considered a natural member of homo superior and how much he's a unique genetic entity created using Mojoworld's advanced science.

Whatever he is, Longshot is incredibly powerful. He has an advanced physique with strength, agility and regenerative powers far in excess of a human, and can see the past by performing psychometric readings on inanimate objects. However, his most useful ability is the power to manipulate probability in his favor, making him intensely 'lucky.' Longshot enhances his powers with throwing blades which, because of his luck, always hit their target.

9 Spiral, aka Rita Wayword

Mojoworld's Mystic Rebel/Enforcer

A human stuntwoman who ended up trapped in the media-obsessed Mojoworld, Spiral was forced to serve the despotic villain Mojo, including extensive surgeries to graft multiple arms onto her body. Mojo trained Spiral as both a warrior and a sorcerer, but as her skills grew, so did her outrage at being forced to serve him. Spiral eventually escaped Mojoworld, joining X-Force at around the same time as Puck.

A skilled sorcerer, Spiral has various mystical abilities including teleportation, energy blasts, and invisibility. She is so skilled at the mystic arts that she was considered as a potential Sorcerer Supreme when Doctor Strange temporarily stepped down.

8 Warlock

New Mutants' Alien Hero Fled the Technarchy

A member of the viral alien species known as the Technarchy, Warlock is considered a mutant of his species because he has no desire to kill his father - a crucial part of the social order of the techno-organic race. Warlock escaped his home planet and ended up on Earth, becoming an iconic member of the New Mutants. While Warlock has a strong friendships with many X-Men, he has a particular bond with Douglas Ramsey's Cypher, and has physically bonded with him on multiple occasions. Warlock's body is made of living technology, allowing him to shapeshift and morph into various tools and devices, including a wearable suit.

7 Shogo Lee, aka Sentinel X

Jubilee's Adopted Son Is the Mutant Iron Man... AND a Dragon

The adopted son of classic hero Jubilee, Shogo is the biological son of the slain villain known as the Future. While Shogo is currently a baby in Marvel's present day, the Battle of the Atom event saw his adult self travel back from the future. There, he's a member of the X-Men, piloting an Iron Man-style suit built out of cutting-edge Sentinel tech, and using the codename Sentinel X. The young Shogo later gained powers in Excalibur volume 4, when he entered the mystic realm of Otherworld alongside his mother and her team. In that realm, Shogo transformed into a giant dragon, complete with magically-infused fire breath.

6 Danger

The X-Men's Danger Room Became a Robotic Warrior

When Charles Xavier upgraded the X-Men's Danger Room with advanced Shi'ar technology, he accidentally created a new artificial intelligence. Danger emerged in 2005's Astonishing X-Men #9 from John Cassaday and Joss Whedon, downing the team thanks to her years of experience predicting their attacks. Danger is one of the most advanced synthetic beings on Earth, able to hack most other technology in moments.

While Danger started out as an enemy of the X-Men, she later joined them, and has been a consistent ally to mutantkind ever since. Danger is capable of beaming her consciousness between bodies - including gigantic machinery - and is equipped with an arsenal of weaponry including flamethrowers and hard-light hologram projectors.

5 Omega Sentinel, aka Karima Shapandar

Created to Eliminate Mutants, Omega Sentinel Protects Them Instead... Mostly

A human police officer, Karima Shapandar was tragically infected with nanotech Sentinel technology, transforming her into a cyborg being. Her powers include enhanced strength and speed, as well as the ability to shapeshift to form an endless variety of weaponry. Omega Sentinel tech can adapt to mutant powers, allowing her to devise counters to most superpowers once she's experienced them once, and she also possesses the ability to hack modern-day technology with ease.

While Karima Shapandar the individual is an ally of mutantkind and even joined the X-Men under Rogue's leadership, her Omega Sentinel tech sometimes forces her to target mutants for extermination, making her a hero who it's difficult for members of homo superior to trust.

4 Doop

Marvel's Weirdest Character Is Almost Impossible to Pin Down

One of Marvel's most mysterious beings, Doop has allied himself with mutantkind due more to personal relationships than any apparent investment in mutant rights. Originally debuting as the videographer of the celebrity team X-Statix in X-Force #116 (from Peter Milligan and Michael Allred), Doop has worked with the X-Men ever since, taking up residence in various mutant havens including Utopia, the Jean Grey School and Krakoa.

Doop's official origin is as a sentient superweapon created during the Cold War, however his unique nature means that reality and continuity may not apply. Doop has various abilities including an alternate dimension inside his body, within which he appears to control the laws of physics and causality. Doop can also step outside of time and space into a realm known as the Marginalia, allowing him to essentially break the fourth wall to his advantage. Doop has shown the ability to use magic, psionic powers and Thor-level superstrength, though again these may be as a result of one-time reality manipulation.

3 Kid Gladiator, aka Kubark

The X-Men's Most Powerful Student Is an Alien Warrior

The last member of the alien Strontian race (apart from his father, Gladiator), Kid Gladiator is one of the most powerful beings in the universe, comparable to DC's Superman. Kubark debuted in Jason Aaron and Chris Bachalo's Wolverine & the X-Men #1, joining the newly formed Jean Grey School for Higher Learning. Despite his immense power, Kid Gladiator is incredibly arrogant, and often falls afoul of smarter enemies using his lack of experience against him. Kubark's superhuman strength, speed, invulnerability, flight, heat vision and enhanced senses allowed him to take on the Avengers single-handed.

2 Juggernaut, aka Cain Marko

Charles Xavier's Step-Brother Went from Mystic Villain to Mutant Ally

Often mistaken for a mutant, Juggernaut is actually empowered by magic artifacts, originally gaining powers from the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak. This artifact connected Juggernaut to a demonic god who rewarded him with power the more chaos and destruction he caused. His mind warped by Cyttorak, Juggernaut spent years going after his hated step-brother Charles Xavier and his team of mutant students, the X-Men.

However, in recent years Juggernaut has fought back against Cyttorak's control and become a hero, joining the fight for mutant rights. During the Krakoan Era, Juggernaut was voted onto the X-Men by Krakoa's mutant population, and he continues to serve on Cyclops' team in Marvel's ongoing X-Men Volume 7 (from Jed MacKay and Ryan Stegman.) Juggernaut's powers vastly increase his strength and durability, but his greatest weapon is his magic momentum - once Juggernaut begins moving, no force on Earth can stop him.

1 Krakoa

The X-Men's Greatest Ally Is a Living Island

A vampiric plant entity, Krakoa is also known as 'The Island That Walks Like a Man,' almost killing the X-Men in the iconic Giant-Size X-Men #1, from Len Wein and Dave Cockrum. However, Marvel's 2019-2024 Krakoan Era saw the X-Men strike up an alliance with Krakoa. Xavier and Magneto arranged for the island to act as a new mutant nation, with each citizen voluntarily donating a small amount of energy to keep it fed and powerful.

At the height of its power, Krakoa became a gigantic nation, with the ground and plants under the control of its singular intelligence. Krakoa can manifest superstrong tendrils and has immense control over its fauna, growing everything from unique medicines to buildings and infrastructure. Krakoa is an ancient being with protective magic bound up in its physical form, and can block various mutant powers at will. At the end of the Krakoan Era, Krakoa left the material plane, allowing its mutant citizens to continue their utopian project away from humanity, though tragically leaving the X-Men behind.

Those are the 17 most powerful X-Men heroes who aren't members of homo superior, with mutantkind's decades of fighting for equality earning them a coterie of unusual allies from this world and others.
