The one thing players need in Starfield is a trusty armor set to keep themselves safe from the many dangers of the Settled Systems. Spacesuits in Starfield are more than just stylish outerwear; they're essential for survival in extreme environments. Tracking down the game's best armor sets isn't always easy, but having a sturdy spacesuit with a good mix of stats gives you a crucial advantage in combat and exploration.
Armor sets generally come in three pieces: a Helmet, a Spacesuit, and one of the various Boost Packs in Starfield. These pieces all have different defensive stats: Physical, Energy, and EM Damage Resistance, as well as Thermal, Corrosive, Radiation, and Airborne Environmental Resistance. These stats tell you how well your spacesuit resists damage from weapons and the environment.
During deep space exploration, the best armor sets have a good mix of both protection against weapons and defenses against environmental hazards you might come across.
17 Monster Costume
Starfield's Best Armor Set For Undeniable Comic Value
The Monster Costume isn't exactly stellar, but it's easily the silliest and, quite possibly, one of the coolest-looking armor sets in Starfield. You receive this costume by completing Tourists Go Home at New Homestead's Living History Colony on Titan (Sol System). Players must help out Dr. Giuliana Lakota of the Living History Colony on Titan with a small but hilarious side quest.

Mods have come to Starfield on Xbox. Many of them are free and even just a handful of them will improve the experience of the game massively.
The good doctor is rather tired of tourists and enlists your help in scaring them off while disguised as a gigantic tardigrade. Scare off enough tourists, and you'll get the Monster Costume as a quest reward.

One quick look at the stats will tell you it's nothing special. The costume's damage resistance is minimal, and it has absolutely no environmental resistance to speak of. As such, it's best thought of as a futuristic update of the inflatable T-Rex costume: poor in battle but extraordinarily high-quality comic relief.
16 Striker Spacesuit
Adopt A Sleek Look
One of the coolest-looking armor sets in Starfield is the Striker Spacesuit and Streetwear, which both are not really designed for combat. With fewer physical defenses than even the Monster Costume, the only real reason to wear this gear is for how visually impressive it is. Thankfully, where this armor lacks in damage reduction, it makes up for this weakness in good environmental protection.

Thermal Environmental Resistance | 10 | -
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 15 | -
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 15 | -

The Striker effect from both pieces of this armor set raises your Critical damage by 5% , allowing you to deal more damage against your enemies.
This armor should only be used when exploring worlds or moving through populated settlements on various planets. You can get this gear by completing "The Audition" side quest in Neon in the Volii star system. Those looking to embark on a challenge run through Starfield may find a suitable level of difficulty trying to survive by only wearing the Striker set.
15 UC Vanguard Spacesuit
A Well-Rounded Armor Set For Early-Game Grunt Work
The UC Vanguard Spacesuit armor set is a few steps above the basic Deep Mining Spacesuit you receive in Starfield's opening chapter. To get it, you must complete the "Grunt Work" quest by signing up to join the United Colonies Vanguard: the UC's fleet of volunteers and captains-for-hire. The rewards for your first mission include the UC Vanguard Spacesuit, the UC Vanguard Space Helmet, and the UC Vanguard Pilot Pack.

Thermal Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 5 |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 30 | 20 | 20 |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 5 |
It's a solid, well-rounded armor set for the early game, with a good balance of defensive stats. The set's physical, energy, and EM damage resistance will keep you alive as you work to protect and save the United Colonies. However, avoiding any corrosive gas vents while exploring new worlds is highly recommended, as the set lacks any resistance to corrosive damage.
14 Gran-Gran's Spacesuit
A Nice Armor Set From Your Parents
The Kid Stuff Trait is one of the best Traits in Starfield. If chosen during character creation, your parents will still be alive, and you must visit your parents in New Atlantis three times. They'll often send you big gifts, including your high-school backpack (for additional carrying capacity), Sir Livingstone's Pistol, and even the unique Wanderwell ship, available nowhere else in the game.
In return, you'll automatically send them 2% of your credits every week, although this is capped.
One of the best gifts your parents can offer is Gran-Gran's Spacesuit, which also comes with Gran-Gran's Helmet as part of a two-piece armor set. It turns out that your grandmother served in the UC Marines, and now it's up to you to make the most of her unique armor.

ENGY Damage Resistance | 60 | 42 | - |
EM Damage Resistance | 68 | 34 | - |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 35 | 20 | - |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 20 | 15 | - |
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 10 | 5 | - |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 10 | - |
Overall, the set has excellent defensive stats for Starfield's early and mid-game portions, and with the right skills, you can upgrade it even further. You will have to clip on a Boost Pack from another armor set. Finally, as a nice bonus, Gran-Gran's Spacesuit also comes with the Pocketed mod, which increases your carrying capacity.
13 Peacemaker Spacesuit
Resist More Environmental Dangers
The Peacemaker armor set provides above-average protection against Starfield's three main damage types, but this suit specializes in better resistance against harmful atmospheres. To obtain every piece of this armor, you have to complete the "Dead Stop" quest on Ixyll. You can find this mission right when you land at the Eleos Retreat area, so be sure to finish it fast for this gear.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 73 | 32 | 52 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 77 | 40 | 68 |
EM Damage Resistance | 81 | 36 | 60 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 10 | 10
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 20 | 20
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 20 | 10
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 30 |
When combining everything together, you get at least some resistance to every type of environmental effect you could come across on your journey through the stars. The Peacemaker effect for this armor allows you to deal more damage with Rifle weapons as well, giving you offense with defense. Those who use long-range builds may use this armor for their whole playthrough due to this innate trait.
12 Ranger Spacesuit
The Perfect Armor Set For A Freestar Ranger
The Freestar Rangers are wandering lawmen and women tasked with maintaining safety and security in the Freestar Collective space. They're a ragtag bunch, and you can join the Freestar Rangers to uncover a sinister conspiracy with far-reaching implications for the Collective.
Once you've completed The Hammer Falls final mission, the Rangers will more than hold up their end of the bargain, gifting you Starfield's Star Eagle spaceship and the Ranger Spacesuit set.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 96 | 44 | 48 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 64 | 36 | 32 |
EM Damage Resistance | 80 | 40 | 40 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 30 | 5 | 5 |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 20 | 20 | 20 |
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 10 | 5
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 5 |
The Ranger Spacesuit is plain and rugged, with none of the fancy add-ons that other armor sets have. It's no-nonsense, with excellent defensive stats across the board. In short, it's perfect for anyone looking to enforce the law in the farthest reaches of Freestar Collective space.
The high damage resistance ensures that you'll be able to shrug off most fire from weapons in Starfield , and you've also got decent resistance to environmental damage.
11 Shocktroop Spacesuit
Steal The Look Of Spacer Enemies
One of the best armor sets to get early in Starfield is the Shocktroop set, which can easily be looted off of Spacer pirates you defeat. This armor set is balanced with damage reduction and environmental resistance, making it a strong choice for those who didn't get armor with their Trait. You can also buy it from several vendors in the populated worlds you visit.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 80 | 48 | 40 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 84 | 32 | 42 |
EM Damage Resistance | 88 | 40 | 44 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 30 | 5
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 15 | 20
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 10
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 20 |
This armor is very good against Radiation, a hazard that may have you struggling at early points in your adventure. More than anything, the Shocktroop armor set is versatile, allowing you to overcome three out of the four environmental damage types with relative ease. This gives you more freedom to explore dangerous worlds and pick up better gear from places you normally couldn't reach.
10 UC Antixeno Spacesuit
A Sturdy Armor Set For Hunting Aliens
The UC Antixeno Spacesuit set is essentially a mid-game upgrade to the UC Vanguard Spacesuit set, obtained by completing Hostile Intelligence, another Faction mission for the United Colonies. Unlike some of Starfield's armor sets, the UC Antixeno Spacesuit also excels against one specific enemy type: alien wildlife.
Both the Spacesuit and the Helmet can come with the Beast Hunter Perk, which reduces the damage you take from aliens by 15%. It also comes with the Analyzer (10% extra damage against scanned targets) and Incendiary (10% chance to ignite attackers) perks.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 76 | 44 | 44 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 92 | 42 | 42 |
EM Damage Resistance | 84 | 46 | 46 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 10 | 10
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 10
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 30
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 20 | 20 | 20 |
Coupled with a combat-focused Starfield character background, you'll be the bane of any hostile alien lifeforms. By scanning hostile animals when you encounter them, you can guarantee that you'll receive the 10% damage bonus, and any enemy that gets within melee range might spontaneously catch fire when attacking you. It's a tough set of armor, perfect for exploring and setting up new outposts on dangerous new planets.
9 Bounty Hunter Spacesuit
A Well-Rounded Armor Set For Explorers
The Bounty Hunter Spacesuit set is one of the best armor sets for the mid to late-game, thanks to its well-rounded, solid stats. By equipping this set, you'll have broad resistance to all types of damage and a well-balanced set of environmental resistances.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 128 | 72 | - |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 132 | 56 | - |
EM Damage Resistance | 136 | 64 | - |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 15 | 20 | - |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 15 | -
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 15 | -
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 10 | - |
Unfortunately, it doesn't come with any special perks, but it's flexible and easily upgraded if you have the right skills. There are other, more unusual armor sets, but the Bounty Hunter set is durable and reliable in a pitched firefight.
You can also equip several different Bounty Hunter Boost Packs, but their stats will all differ slightly, so make sure to compare to find the best variant for your build.

One of the most iconic armors in Starfield is actually hiding a much deeper, darker secret once you look past the surface.
8 Mercury Spacesuit
The Best Armor Set For Fans Of Old-School Sci-Fi
The Mercury Spacesuit set is a nice throwback to the early days of space exploration and is essentially a faithful recreation of space suits once used by NASA in Starfield. In-game, the armor set has stats to match the Bounty Hunter Spacesuit set but also boasts additional environmental resistance.
Picked up during the Unearthed main mission, it's the perfect choice for explorers and outpost builders who benefit most from resistance to a wide variety of environmental hazards.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 108 | 50 | 42 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 92 | 52 | 58 |

Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 25 | 15 | 20 |
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 25 | 15 | 20 |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 25 | 15 | 20 |
However, although the set comes with the Mercury Pack, you'll have to swap in a different pack to get Boost Pack functionality. The Mercury Pack has some potent stats but isn't a boost pack, so you'll need to decide whether you'd like additional armor or extra mobility.
Unlike other armor sets, the Mercury Spacesuit set can be missed, as the area it's found in becomes inaccessible after your mission is complete. Make sure to grab it from the display cases before progressing.
7 Mantis Armor
The Perfect Armor Set For Settled Systems Vigilantes
While exploring, you might come across a mysterious data slate named Secret Outpost!, which starts Starfield's The Mantis side quest. By following the quest log, you'll end up at a hidden base on Denebola 1-B.
As you explore, you'll discover that the base was once the lair of the Mantis, a notorious vigilante whose presence struck fear into the hearts of pirates and raiders across the Settled Systems.

EM Damage Resistance | 100 | 50 | 51 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 15 | 20 | 5 |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 10
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 30 | 5
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 20 |
By completing the quest, you can claim the mantle of the Mantis for yourself. The rewards include the Razorleaf, one of Starfield's best ships, and the Mantis Armor set. Aside from its stats, the Mantis Armor set also comes with extra perks selected randomly from a large list of possible perks.
You can re-roll, which perks you get by reloading saves, giving this armor set an extra layer of customization that other armor sets don't have.
6 Zealot Spacesuit
Give In To A Greater Faith
The Zealot armor set can be found within the Shattered Space DLC for Starfield, worn by many of the Va'ruun Zealot enemies you encounter. This sleek armor can be picked off from Zealot enemies or found in chests on the Va'ruun'kai world visited in the game's expansion. Although easy to find, this doesn't take away from how this armor's great stats can help you combat new threats in the DLC.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 132 | 72 | 66 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 128 | 56 | 64 |
EM Damage Resistance | 136 | 64 | 68 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 15 | 10
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 15 | 20 | 10 |
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 10 |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 10 |
The signature appearance of House Va'ruun lives up to its reputation by having reliable damage and environmental defenses. This armor set has similar stats to the Va'ruun Assault Spacesuit set while being much lighter than the Heavy Assault armor some Va'ruun fighters use. This makes the armor more reliable and a perfect choice to upgrade your existing armor when entering the new world in Shattered Space.
5 Mark 1 Constellation Spacesuit
The Best Armor Set For Dedicated Explorers
This armor set boasts impressive late-game stats, but you can get the Mark 1 Constellation Spacesuit early in Starfield, thanks to an exploit. You'll reach Constellation's Lodge within the first hour of the game, and with a bit of careful movement, you can access the basement from any point afterward. The Mark 1 Constellation set is stored away inside a display case with a Master-level lock.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 132 | 72 | 66 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 136 | 64 | 64 |
EM Damage Resistance | 128 | 68 | 68 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 20 | 20 | 20 |
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 30 | 5 | 5 |
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 5 | 5
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 10 |
Its stats make it ideal for prolonged firefights, and it also outclasses many other armor sets when it comes to environmental resistance. The Mark 1 Constellation set should last you a long time, but you can always upgrade it as you reach Starfield's highest levels.
4 Fang's Armor Set
As you can see in the above video by YouTube creator Gaming with Griff Griffin, the Fang's armor set is one you can find in the Shattered Space DLC as a rare variant of the Va'ruun Heavy Assault gear. This armor has undisputed physical defenses but weighs slightly less than other Heavy armor. With extra Airborne and Radiation protection, it has some unique strengths.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 144 | 64 | 72 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 112 | 64 | 56 |
EM Damage Resistance | 128 | 64
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 10
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 30 | 20
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 10
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 20 |
This armor also has the Sturdy trait, which reduces melee damage dealt against you. Other features like Auto-Medic help you heal by automatically using a Med Pack whenever your health gets too low in combat. The Spacesuit part of this armor also has the Weapon Holsters trait, an ability that causes any of the weapons in Starfield you use to weigh 50% less as you travel.
This Spacesuit also carries the Chameleon skill that allows you to blend into environments when you aren't moving. This is an ability rarely found on heavy armor, allowing you to dictate when battles start with this protective gear.
3 Chameleon Deepcore Spacesuit
The Best Armor Set For Stealth Players
While armor is usually there to protect players from combat and the harsh elements in Starfield, some can aid you in the stealthy approach instead. The Chameleon modifier in Starfield is perfect for sneaky engagements, allowing you to better sneak up on enemies, pickpocket NPCs, or tamper with computers. Upon crouching, players become practically invisible, and this can be further enhanced if you specify some extra points about stealth.
However, the Chameleon mod cannot be added to a piece of gear manually. Instead, players must come across a spacesuit with the modifier already attached. Fortunately, you can pick up a Deepcore Spacesuit with the Chameleeon attachment as possible loot, dropped by Spacers and Ecliptics upon death.
If players are lucky, there's a chance these enemies drop a legendary kit with the mod in Starfield .
PHYS Damage Resistance | 57 | 28 | 26 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 53 | 26 | 28 |
EM Damage Resistance | 61 | 30 | 30 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 5
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 30 | 20 | 20 |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 15 | 5 | 5 |
While the Deepcore Spacesuit alone doesn't boast the most amazing set of stats, its protective utility isn't a priority here, especially with the added modifier in place. Those with a stealthy playstyle will avoid close-quarter combat, dealing sneak-based attacks or long-ranged attacks, and therefore, don't warrant the need for durable armor stats.
2 Tracker's Alliance
The Most Robust Armor Set For Tank Players
The Tracker's Alliance is one of the most robust armor in Starfield, with huge amounts of damage resistance that will tremendously protect players in combat. With an impressive stat of 144 resistance against Physical Damage, this armor set is ideal for tank-best players who like to charge into the fray of battle unafraid and unscathed.
Moreover, it is easily obtainable, as it can be purchased from different vendors in major cities, saving you from having to complete a long side quest to get it as a reward. Two vendors have a high chance of stocking them in their inventory, the first of which is located at Trade Authority, at The Den Space Station.
Players can find it orbiting Planet Chthonia in the Wolf System. The second location that players can buy this piece from is the Crimson Fleet headquarters in The Key Space Station, which is found orbiting Planet Suvorov, located in the Kryx System.
PHYS Damage Resistance | 144 | 68 | 68 |
ENGY Damage Resistance | 122 | 60 | 60 |
EM Damage Resistance | 128 | 64 | 64 |
Thermal Environmental Resistance | 10
Corrosive Environmental Resistance | 5 | 5
Airborne Environmental Resistance | 20 | 20 | 20 |
Radiation Environmental Resistance | 30 | 5 | 5 |
Players can purchase it for around 20,780 Credits, and vendors change their stock every 48 hours, so keep an eye out to see when it becomes available. Alternatively, there is a chance that it can be obtained as loot around particular structures and POIs in Starfield , which can happen fairly regularly, saving you a lot of Credit.
The only downside to the Tracker's Alliance armor set is its lackluster environmental protection, posing generally low resistance to Thermal, airborne, and Radiation and nothing against corrosion. It could be used as a piece to keep in your inventory, used specifically against more threatening enemies that hit hard, and so isn't recommended for explorative endeavors.
1 Starborn Spacesuit
The Best Armor Set In Starfield
Once you reach Starfield's New Game Plus, you'll receive the Starborn Spacesuit. This is easily the best armor set in the game, and you can upgrade its stats even further by reaching New Game Plus more than once. The best version is the Starborn Spacesuit Venator set, obtained by reaching your tenth New Game Plus playthrough.
PHYS Damage Resistance | Depends on which variant you obtain
ENGY Damage Resistance
EM Damage Resistance | |||
Thermal Environmental Resistance
Corrosive Environmental Resistance

This is quite the journey, even for dedicated Starfield players. In the meantime, make sure to track down some of the armor sets listed above. The Settled Systems can be dangerous for the unprepared, and having the right armor might just save your life.
