Last week, fans finally got their first glimpse of action icon Jason Statham suited up and in production on his latest collaboration with acclaimed director Guy Ritchie. The project in question is Viva La Madness, a new action-thriller based on J.J. Connolly’s 2011 novel, the follow-up to Layer Cake. Of course, as is customary for a Ritchie movie, the ensemble is star-studded, featuring Statham alongside the likes of Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Babs Olusanmokun, Camila Mendes, Ben Foster, Jonny Lee Miller, and Raúl Alejandro.

As fans wait for more news and images from the ongoing Viva La Madness production, they can look forward to seeing one of Statham's most brutal movies on a new streaming site. Homefront, the action thriller that pays homage to various action classics, was released in 2013 and starred Statham alongside the likes of James Franco, Winona Ryder, Frank Grillo, and more. Written by Sylvester Stallone and based on Chuck Logan’s novel, the film followed Statham as a former DEA agent, Phil Broker, who moves to a quiet town with his daughter to leave his chaotic life behind. However, when a sociopathic drug lord puts him and his daughter in danger, Phil vows to get justice.

Against a reported budget of $22 million, the movie returned a decent box office haul of $51.6 million. This was above average for a non-franchise Statham vehicle at the time, with his latest box office venture, Shelter, unable to even return its budget. The upcoming Viva La Madness is sure to be a return to form for Statham at the box office. For anyone looking to try out this 2013 Statham actioner, Homefront will be available to stream on Plex beginning this April.

How Did Critics React to 'Homefront'?

Although audiences often enjoy the formulaic action of a Statham thriller, critics rarely do. Homefront was no different, earning just 42% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes compared to a more favorable 61% from audiences. The critics' consensus on the site reads, "While it boasts a capable cast, the disappointingly dull Homefront hearkens back to classic action thrillers without adding anything to the genre."

Homefront will stream on Plex this April. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming news.
