10 Shows To Watch if You Love Netflix's 'Finding Her Edge'

1 week ago 18

After Finding Her Edge premiered on Netflix in late January, the series became an instant global hit, getting renewed for Season 2 a few weeks later. The series is based on Jennifer Iacopelli's novel of the same name, and it follows Adriana Russo (Madelyn Keys) as she takes her chances at winning gold with her skating partner Brayden Elliot (Cale Ambrozic). Her family's financial distress adds an extra layer of pressure for Adriana to win the competition and save Russo Rink from bankruptcy, leading her and Brayden to pretend to be a couple on and off the ice. Their fake dating arrangement does pose a threat to Adriana's long-standing connection with Freddie (Olly Atkins), her former skating partner.

With audiences being drawn in by the series' love triangle, and its exploration of ice dance, it's natural for people to crave more sweeping romances in a high-stakes sports context like the one in Finding Her Edge. If you are unsure of what to watch after binging the Netflix YA drama, here are a few recommendations that will help to fill the void.

1 'Spinning Out' (2020)

Before Finding Her Edge came out, many were quick to draw comparisons with Spinning Out, another figure skating series that released on Netflix years prior. Even though both feature the same sport, the short-lived drama starring Kaya Scodelario focused more on mental health than romantic entanglements. The series follows Kat Baker (Scodelario) as she returns to the ice after suffering from a head injury that put her career on hold. As she swaps singles skating for pair skating and partners with Justin Davis (Evan Roderick), the two must work tirelessly to build their chemistry and go far in the competition.

If you are looking for a more somber depiction of the world of figure skating, Spinning Out allows you to see the hardships of being an athlete, especially when it comes to having a mental illness. Kate has bipolar disorder, and sometimes avoids taking medication to perform better on the ice, proving how the path to Olympic glory comes at a cost. Although sparks fly between Kate and Justin, the series delves deeper into Kate's complex relationship with her mother, who also has bipolar disorder, and her younger sister (Willow Shields).

2 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' (2022–2025)

Most fans of Finding Her Edge have strong opinions about Adriana choosing Freddie at the end of Season 1. Another series that similarly drove viewers mad over a love triangle was The Summer I Turned Pretty, with Belly (Lola Tung) being torn between two brothers: Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalegno). Early on in the series, Belly is revealed to have had a crush on Conrad since childhood, with her family and his spending every summer together at Cousins Beach. About to turn 16, everything feels more complicated when she begins to develop feelings for Jeremiah, who, up until then, was just her friend.

Throughout the series, Belly not only comes to terms with which of the two she truly belongs to, but also grows into her own. As she navigates love, heartbreak, grief, and ever-evolving friendships, she goes from being a teenager trying to figure it out to an adult who is certain of what she wants. Since there is a Summer I Turned Pretty film in the works, this is the perfect time to give the series a try.

3 'My Life With the Walter Boys' (2023–Present)

Another series worth noting if you are craving more love triangle premises is My Life With the Walter Boys. The Netflix YA series follows Jackie Howard (Nikki Rodriguez), a preppy schoolgirl whose life takes a turn after her parents die in a tragic accident. Forced to let go of her luxurious home in Manhattan and move in with Katherine Walter (Sarah Rafferty) and her family, Jackie struggles to overcome grief and adjust to a packed household in a rural setting. It doesn't help when she ends up developing feelings for Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex Walter (Ashby Gentry), two of the siblings she is living with.

Cole is the typical bad boy (much like Brayden), whereas Alex is sweet and emotionally available (much like Freddie), and she is unsure of which of the two she's most drawn to. Despite being focused on maintaining her grades and getting into Princeton, Jackie's proximity to the Walters makes her reconsider what she might want for her future. Similarly to how Adriana and her sisters are trying to overcome their mother's death and figure out who they want to be aside from their family's skating legacy, Jackie is also reevaluating who she is outside of her elite upbringing.

4 'The Next Step' (2013–2025)

Before joining Finding Her Edge, Alexandra Beaton was known for her prominent role in the Canadian dance series, The Next Step. Shot in a mockumentary style, the teen drama follows a troupe studying at the titular dance studio and preparing for major competitions. In Finding Her Edge, there is a fair share of drama at Russo Rink as the skaters live under the same roof and practice for the world championship. The same goes for the characters in The Next Step, whose passion for dance leads them to engage in rivalries and romances in between intense training.

If you loved seeing Elise go from a "mean girl" to an ultimate team player by the end of Finding Her Edge Season 1, you'll definitely enjoy watching Beaton play Emily in The Next Step. Emily is introduced as an established dancer and bossy captain, but throughout the series, she softens and settles her differences with her ultimate rival, Michelle (Victoria Baldesarra).

5 'Heated Rivalry' (2025–Present)

Hudson Williams as Shane Hollander and Connor Storrie as Ilya Rozanov face off on the ice on Heated Rivalry. Image via Crave

Another Canadian ice series that has become a hit worldwide is Heated Rivalry. Although it is certainly racier than Finding Her Edge, the HBO Max drama follows an intense, enemies-to-lovers romance between two hockey players from opposing teams. Shane (Hudson Williams) is wholesome and controlled, whereas Ilya (Connor Storrie) is cocky and temperamental. Yet, their contrasting personalities are exactly what bring them together, engaging in a secretive relationship off the rink.

The series explores the characters' public personas, as they try to conform to the expectations imposed on them as professional hockey players. Fearful of how their relationship could be perceived if it were made public, Shane and Ilya keep their romance casual and hidden from the rest of the world, separating their personal and professional lives to protect their high-stakes careers. The series has also been renewed for Season 2, set to begin filming this summer.

6 'Zero Chill' (2021)

After Spinning Out, Netflix released another figure skating series, Zero Chill. The British teen drama focuses on 15-year-old figure skater Kayla MacBentley (Grace Beedie), as she moves from Canada to the UK after her twin brother (Dakota Taylor) gets accepted to a prestigious hockey academy. With Kayla wanting to step out of her brother's shadow, she juggles competitive skating with making new friendships and finding her own identity in a new country.

Much like Adriana, Elise, and Mimi (Alice Malakhov) doesn't always get along, Kayla has a complicated relationship with her brother because their parents prioritize his hockey accomplishments over her skating aspirations. She resents the fact that she has to start over in a new place, where she'll have to double the work to prove her worth on the ice. This series is just as lighthearted and family-driven as Finding Her Edge, making it a perfect follow-up watch.

7 'Dance Academy' (2010–2013)

It might not be set on the ice, but Dance Academy has all the drama, romance, and competitive energy that you'd hope for after binging Netflix's hit series. In it, a small-town teenager named Tara Webster (Xenia Goodwin) is offered a once-in-a-lifetime chance to attend the National Academy of Dance and fulfill her dream of becoming a prima ballerina. Yet, the journey to becoming a professional dancer isn't easy, with Tara having to adjust to the rigorous training and having to prove she's worthy of getting a solo over her equally talented and passionate colleagues.

What's great about Dance Academy is that each of the show's core characters is given proper development, and uncovers their own identities within the dance world. For instance, certain characters who begin the series wanting to just focus on learning hip-hop or ballet end up enjoying another dance style instead. There is some romance thrown in the mix, but the series also tackles the pressures of being in a prestigious dance school.

8 'Glitter & Gold: Ice Dancing' (2026)

Those who are caught up in the Winter Olympics know that the three skating pairs that made it to the podium were the focal point of a recent Netflix docuseries called Glitter & Gold. American pair Madison Chock and Evan Bates, Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier, and French duo Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Guillaume Cizeron were all competing for the gold medal recently. If you haven't gotten the chance to learn about their backstories or even the controversy behind one of the duos, this is the perfect occasion to watch the docuseries.

Piper and Paul might've made a cameo appearance in a scene from Finding Her Edge, but there is so much more to their partnership worth noting. In Glitter & Gold, you'll get to see the distinct way that each of these pairs approaches skating together, and even learn more about the challenges that they faced while preparing for the competition. This docuseries proves that real-life ice dancers can be just as intriguing as the fictional ones in Finding Her Edge.

9 'Maxton Hall' (2024–Present)

James Beaufort (Damian Hardung) and Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten) in 'Maxton Hall' Image via Prime Video

If you were rooting for Braydriana, you'll likely fall in love with Maxton Hall's main couple. The German series is one of the most popular on Prime Video, and it focuses on Ruby Bell (Harriet Herbig-Matten), a scholarship student who is dedicated to landing a spot at Oxford after graduation. When she accidentally walks in on a student and a teacher in a compromising situation, Ruby then becomes targeted by James Beaufort (Damian Hardung), an arrogant millionaire determined to silence her. After sabotaging an event that Ruby organized, James is forced to plan another school event alongside her, allowing them to spend more time together and let go of their animosity.

Maxton Hall centers on Ruby and James' enemies-to-lovers connection, showing how their romance is impacted by their contrasting social standings. James comes from an affluent family and is the heir of a fashion empire, and Ruby comes from a more humble background, dedicating herself to school in order to earn a scholarship to Oxford. They might belong in separate worlds, but it's hard not to root for them to find a way to make it work.

10 'We Were Liars' (2025–Present)

Before landing the role of Brayden, Cale Ambrozic had a supporting part in another YA hit. We Were Liars is based on a novel by E. Lockhart, and it follows Cadence Sinclair (Emily Alyn Lind) as she recounts her summers at Beechwood Island, and struggles to remember what happened before her mysterious accident. The series focuses on Cadence, her cousins Mirren (Esther McGregor) and Johnny (Joseph Zada), and their family friend Gat (Shubham Maheshwari), who are known as the Liars. Together, they come to terms with what it means to be a Sinclair (in Gat's case, what it means to be an outsider given in), trying to prove their worth in a family that values appearances more than anything.

Ambrozic played a minor character that momentarily gets in the way of Mirren and Johnny's bond, but it's nice to see him on screen before his breakout role in Finding Her Edge. We Were Liars did get renewed for Season 2, which will center on Cadence, Mirren, and Johnny's mothers, diving deeper into their well-kept secrets.
