2 days ago 2

The heroes featured in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are powerful, unique, and above all, lovable. Therefore, it is devastating for fans when one of their favorite characters is killed. Because the story is, at its core, a battle of good vs. evil, there are many casualties when heroes and villains go head-to-head.

Some deaths in the series are expected and heavily foreshadowed. Yet others pop up out of the blue, bringing fans to tears with the sudden tragedy. Because JoJo's Bizarre Adventure characters are so relatable, dynamic, and easy to adore, any deaths, anticipated or not, take an emotional toll on viewers of the series.

10 Shigechi Was Exploded by Yoshikage Kira’s Stand, Killer Queen

After He Discovered Kira’s Identity, He Was Murdered To Prevent the Serial Killer From Being Caught

Shigechi is a controversial JoJo's character and fans are divided on whether they love or hate the season four Stand User. Shigechi was good friends with Josuke and Okuyasu, but he was pretty selfish, frequently using his Harvest Stand to steal from others. Despite his greed, his death seemed unnecessarily cruel for an innocent teenager.

Yoshikage Kira, the villain of season four, used his Killer Queen Stand to end Shigechi's life in a gruesome manner. Shigechi had discovered Kira's serial killer identity, so he felt he had no choice but to end the child's life before he could inform anyone else by making him explode violently. Even for those who find Shigechi annoying, most can agree he did not deserve his gruesome final fate.

9 Iggy Died Valiantly Protecting His Fellow Stand Users

His Noble Sacrifice Allowed Polnareff To Survive the Encounter With Vanilla Ice

Stunningly, one of the saddest JoJo's deaths is actually not a human's death, it is a dog's. Iggy, the troublemaking sidekick during the Stardust Crusaders arc, proved himself to be more than just comic relief. Him and Polnareff had a tumultuous relationship throughout the journey to Egypt to find Dio, and they did not particularly like one another.

However, when Vanilla Ice, one of Dio's henchmen, attacked the pair, Iggy defended Polnareff with his life. Unfortunately, the Stand User had already killed Avdol, but Iggy used the last bit of his might to save Polnareff from danger before losing too much blood and passing away. This devastating scene cemented Iggy's status as a valuable member of the group who cared fiercely for his comrades, not just a humorous side character.

8 Jonathan Joestar Was Killed by Dio, Who Took Control of His Body To Use for His Own Schemes

Try as He Might, He Could Never Convince His Adoptive Brother To Turn to the Good Side

The first ever Joestar, Jonathan, set the stage for every other Joestar who would follow him. Unfortunately, Dio attacked him from every angle, killing his father, George, and pet dog, Danny, kissing his girlfriend, Erina, and overall just making his life miserable in any way he could think of.

Dio eventually killed Jonathan too, while attempting to take control of his body, which he succeeded at. Jonathan was forgiving to a fault, even before his death. Although he fought back against Dio, he still cared deeply for his adoptive brother and wished things could have played out differently, but sadly, the person he desperately hoped to win over during his whole life was the one who murdered him in the end.

7 Noriaki Kakyoin Had a Hole Punched Through His Body by Dio’s Stand

His Death Was Sudden and Virtually Inescapable, as The World Stand Ended His Life in a Matter of Seconds

Noriaki Kakyoin was one of the Stand Users who embarked on a journey to Egypt to track down the evil villain, Dio. Unfortunately, he did not make it back alive from the action-packed and difficult journey. His death was one of the most gory and horrifying in the entire series.

During a battle with Dio, the villain punched a hole straight through Kakyoin with his Stand, The World. Kakyoin was sent crashing into a nearby water tower, where he quickly died from blood loss and his injuries. He was only a teenager and a fan-favorite hero, so his demise came as both a shock and a tragedy.

6 Caesar Zeppeli Died Fighting Wamuu, Leaving Joseph Joestar Heartbroken

His Untimely Demise Devastated His Friend Joseph, Who Found Him Crushed by a Stone

Caesar Zeppeli became one of Joseph Joestar's best friends and most valuable teammates. Heartbreakingly, one of the Pillar Men he and Joseph were battling wound up ending his life when he attempted to fight him on his own. He fought relentlessly against Wamuu until some falling stone landed on him, and he could not continue any longer.

Joseph's final cry of Caesar's name is one of the most famous lines in the series. The raw emotion and devastation in his voice make the death even more disheartening for viewers. Caesar and Joseph's friendship was truly close and special, and it is sad that they were unable to share more moments together.

5 Gyro Zeppeli Was Fatally Wounded in a Fight With Funny Valentine

Although it has not been animated yet, Gyro Zeppeli's death during the Steel Ball Run arc is one of the series' most heart-wrenching deaths by far. Gyro was a bold, blunt, and oftentimes merciless individual, but he genuinely cared for Johnny Joestar and that was evident through his careful training. Woefully, he did not survive his last encounter with the villain, Funny Valentine.

Gyro was wounded beyond what he could handle and passed away, leaving Johnny miserable. He spoke his final words directed towards Johnny, inspiring him to continue the fight. This tear-jerking scene proved the strength of the bond between Johnny and Gyro, as well as revealing Gyro's dedication to fight to the bitter end, even if the personal consequences were dire.

4 Narancia Ghirga Was Impaled by Diavolo

Giorno Grew Flowers Over His Corpse Using Golden Experience, to Honor His Brave Comrade

The Golden Wind arc of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure contained numerous deaths, and one of the worst of those was Narancia's. His death was particularly violent, as he was impaled while fighting Diavolo. Narancia was only seventeen when he passed away, but he fought more courageously than many adults would, giving up his life to protect his Passione gang comrades.

The rest of Passione were truly touched by Narancia's selfless sacrifice. As a testament to how much they cared for the boy, Giorno used his Stand to make flowers blossom over the remains of Narancia's body. Since they were in the midst of a tense battle and could not give their friend a proper burial, the flowers served as a symbol of their love for him and his heroic acts.

3 Bruno Bucciarati Was Carried Away by Angels After Diavolo Killed Him

After Defeating the Evil Mob Boss, He Ascended to Heaven

Bruno Bucciarati, leader of the Passione gang, proclaimed he would risk anything to stop the drug trade in Italy that was harming many innocent people. He proved his promises were not just empty words by fighting the mob boss, Diavolo, head on to save Trish Una from harm. At the conclusion of the final battle with Diavolo, he died for good.

Bucciarati shockingly revealed that he had actually passed away during his first battle with Diavolo. It was thanks to Golden Experience, Giorno's Stand, and sheer willpower that he stayed alive to see his task through to the end. Once he accomplished his aim and laid the evil Diavolo to rest, he ascended to Heaven in a beautiful golden ceremony surrounded by angels, a display that would cause any viewer to shed a tear.

2 Leone Abbacchio Was Killed Instantly by Diavolo

His Passione Comrades Mourned the Loss of Their Cherished Friend, Unable to Contain Their Emotions

Leone Abbacchio, one of the members of Passione, died more suddenly than anyone else in the series, while watching children play soccer. His death occurred in the blink of an eye, as Diavolo used his Stand, King Crimson, to punch a hole through him. Abbacchio died instantly, before any of his comrades could even come to his rescue.

His death itself was heartbreaking, but the reactions of his fellow Passione gang members are truly tear-jerking. Narancia let out an agonized scream of devastation, while Bruno bit his lip until it bled to contain his sorrow in front of his men. The love every member of Passione had for Abbacchio is evident, highlighting the fact that Passione is more of a family than a gang.

1 Jotaro Kujo, Jolyne Cujoh, and Everyone Else in JoJo’s Died When the World Reset

Every Character but Emporio Was Reborn, so This Season Waved a Final Goodbye to the Original Jojo’s Cast

The end of the Stone Ocean arc marked the close of the main JoJo's story, a bittersweet moment. Considering the entire world was reset by Pucci, every character could be considered "dead" or reborn, but a few of those deaths hit very hard considering how desperately the characters fought to stop Pucci and Dio's plan. Jolyne, the protagonist of this season, put her all into fighting Pucci, but sadly, he still succeeded and ended her life.

Jotaro, perhaps the most iconic character in JoJo's, also met his end at the hands of Pucci. Finally, Emporio was the only character left alive, the sole survivor of Pucci's scheme. No JoJo's Bizarre Adventure moment will ever be as shockingly heartbreaking as the entire world being rebooted, wiping out every remaining character fans know and love instantly and leaving only one original character left, Emporio.
