10 Best Movies Like You're Cordially Invited

4 hours ago 7

You're Cordially Invited is a wedding-themed rom-com full of over-the-top comedy—but it's not the only film of its kind. Audiences who enjoyed the Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon movie may be on the hunt for something similar, and a handful of movies from years past can fill the mold. You're Cordially Invited features the enemies-to-lovers trope, over-the-top slapstick and situational comedy, and, of course, a whole lot of weddings. While similar movies may check more boxes than others, fans of these tropes have great options for what to watch next.

The 2025 Prime Video movie follows Ferrell's Jim and Witherspoon's Margot as they attempt to give their most beloved family members the wedding of their dreams. Unfortunately, a clerical mishap resulted in both booking their events at the same time and at the same place. With few other options, Jim and Margot agreed to share the venue, but things quickly became competitive. You're Cordially Invited is warfare between a father-of-the-bride and a Maid of Honor. While this story is unique, Hollywood has proven that a whole lot of hilarious chaos can happen over a wedding weekend.

10 Palm Springs (2020)

A Groundhog Day-Like Wedding-Day Rom-com

Release Date July 10, 2020

Runtime 90 minutes

Director Max Barbakow

Writers Andy Siara

Palm Springs (2020) is a romantic comedy movie that stars Andy Samberg and Cristin Milioti as a couple who find one another at a wedding. However, unlike the typical wedding-day comedy, this science-fiction-inspired film takes on a Groundhog Day-like premise. Milioti and Samberg's characters end up in a time loop after hooking up with one another, which means they are forced to relive the same wedding day over and over again.

While Palm Springs' time-loop premise keeps it unique, many qualities within this move make it similar to You're Cordially Invited. It's missing the enemies-to-loves trope, but the over-the-top, outrageous brand of comedy keeps these two movies within the same playing field. Add in the wedding setting, and those who enjoyed Ferrell and Witherspoon's 2025 rom-com will surely enjoy 2020's Palm Springs.

Release Date July 15, 2005

Runtime 119 minutes

Director David Dobkin

Writers Steve Faber, Bob Fisher

Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson's 2005 comedy Wedding Crashers follows two divorce mediators who have made a hobby out of crashing weddings. Their greatest target yet is the one thrown by Secretary of the Treasury William Cleary (Christopher Walken) for his daughter. Naturally, chaos ensues as Vaugh and Wilson's characters, Jeremy and John, do all they can to crash the event. Of course, a little romance gets sprinkled in as well.

Wedding Crashers is less of a rom-com and more of a traditional comedy. However, since You're Cordially Invited only threw in the romance element near the end, these two wedding-themed movies are still comparable. What's more, those who watched the 2025 Prime Video movie primarily for Ferrell are sure to be similarly satisfied by Vaughn and Wilson's 2000s brand of comedy.

Crazy Rich Asians stars Constance Wu as Rachel Chu, a financially modest daughter of an Asian-American immigrant who travels to Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick (Henry Golding), for his best friend's wedding. While there, she is shocked to discover that Nick's family is massively wealthy and that his mother, Eleanor (Michelle Yeoh), disapproves of their relationship.

Like You're Cordially Invited, Crazy Rich Asians features a star-studded cast. Wu, Golding, and Yeoh are joined by comedy geniuses like Awkwafina, Ken Jeong, and more. While the comedy in this 2018 award-winning movie isn't as outrageous as You're Cordially Invited, it centers on a similar sort of chaos that seems only to play out when families come together for a wedding.

2008's 27 Dresses stars rom-com regular Katherine Heigl as Jane, who is always the bridesmaid and never the bride. Things begin to fall apart for Jane when her horrible sister becomes engaged to the man she loves. Around the same time, a charming reporter (James Marsden) decides that her story is the key to his own success.

Both films explore the many ways that a wedding can go terribly wrong and teach the overarching lesson that love can be found in unexpected places.

27 Dresses is heavily influenced by the enemies-to-lovers trope, which is also prominent in You're Cordially Invited. However, the 2008 movie is more like a typical romantic comedy, so there are some significant tonal differences. Still, both films explore the many ways that a wedding can go terribly wrong and teach the overarching lesson that love can be found in unexpected places.

It may not be romantic, but the 2018 wedding comedy still boasts a similar flavor.

Cast

  • Sydney Sweeney at Paris Fashion Week 2024
  • Headshot Of Glen Powell In The 96th Academy Awards Vanity Fair Party

2023's Anyone But You stars Sydney Sweeny and Glen Powell as Beatrice and Ben, who are reunited at a wedding after their one-night hookup ended in disaster. The pair hate one another, but since Beatrice's family is determined to get her a date and Ben is eager to make the girl he likes jealous, they pretend to be a couple to make it through the wedding weekend.

The wedding weekend theme certainly ties Anyone But You and You're Cordially Invited, but the connection here is furthered by the enemies-to-lovers dynamic. Of course, there is only one wedding in Anyone But You, and Beatrice and Ben are working together rather than competing. Still, the chemistry-filled combativeness of this 2023 rom-cam is sure to scratch a similar itch.

4 The People We Hate At The Wedding (2022)

A Wedding Comedy All About Family

The People We Hate at the Wedding stars Kristen Bell and Ben Platt as siblings Alice and Paul Stevenson, who come together for their half-sister Eloise's (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) wedding. Alice and Paul have never been close to Eloise, leading them to be estranged from their mother, Donna (Allison Janney). Naturally, all this family dysfunction makes the European wedding a disaster.

The complicated family dynamics are the main thing that connects this 2022 comedy with You're Cordially Invited

The People We Hate at the Wedding doesn't lean as much into romance—though this is undoubtedly a feature of the movie. The complicated family dynamics are the main thing that connects this 2022 comedy with You're Cordially Invited. Witherspoon's Margot was equally as estranged from her family in You're Cordially Invited as Paul and Alice are in The People We Hate at the Wedding, and the resulting comedic chaos is highly similar.

The People We Hate at the Wedding is based on the book of the same name by Grant Ginder.

Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds' The Proposal follows a big-time editor, Margaret, who is faced with deportation unless she can convince immigration that she fell in love with and plans to marry her assistant, Andrew. Of course, Andrew actually hates Margaret but agrees to play along with the charade so long as his boss gives him a promotion. Of course, the whole thing became all the more complicated when the happy couple was expected to tie the knot in Alaska with Andrew's family.

The Proposal checks several boxes for a movie similar to You're Cordially Invited. It's another wedding rom-com that also utilizes the enemies-to-lovers trope. Additionally, the 2009 movie is layered up with themes of family. This is all balanced out over-the-top comedy that hits all the right notes.

Bridesmaids and You're Cordially Invited are, of course, both wedding-based movies. However, the specific brand of comedy within these films makes them comparable. The rivalry between Annie and Helen has a similar feel to that of Jim and Margot in You're Cordially Invited. As they fight for the bride's attention, everything falls to pieces around them. The result is a variety of outrageous disasters that could only pass in these types of comedy movies.

1 Bride Wars (2009)

A mishap at the venue meant that both brides had been booked for the same day.

Though there are some differences between Bride Wars and You're Cordially Invited, the basic premise is essentially identical. The latter adopted the idea of two weddings being booked at the same place and same time, but added in the romantic-comedy element by centering on the wedding planners rather than the brides themselves. Regardless, those who enjoyed You're Cordially Invited will surely find a winner in Bride Wars.
