That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime with Not Allowed In Another World and Tsumiki - Moonlit Fantasy in the background

Isekai series are some of the most popular and diverse in anime. Some isekai series send their characters to a new dark world without any good powers to rely on, like Re:Zero. Others, like Campfire Cooking, take a more absurd route and send their characters to fun worlds filled with jokes and adventures. Humor in isekai gets to be different from other genres of anime because the main character is in an entirely new environment. They usually have their memories from their old life too, making their reactions to their new world hilarious.

The funniest isekai series all have their own unique style. The humor found in a series like Drifters is totally different from the jokes in KonoSuba, and that's perfect. Each funny isekai series does their own thing, bringing a fun theme to the table in their own way.

The title alone is worth a laugh. Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill tells the entire tale of the anime in one succinct sentence, and it works. It's a hilarious series with a basic premise that works the entire time. Tsuyoshi Mukoda was a normal Japanese man when he was summoned to a new world. He was summoned by accident, however, and his stats pale in comparison to the three heroes who were initially summoned.

He decides to head to the woods and use his new skill to cook some delicious meals. It's a light-hearted series filled with silly quips, fun gags, and great jokes throughout. One of the most adorable moments in the series comes when Sui and Fel try Pepsi for the first time. Fel swallows an entire liter and a half before he starts burping. It's a funny moment worth a laugh without any real tension to worry about.

Drifters has a unique sense of humor different to most other isekai series. It could be best compared to fellow darkest isekai animeOverlord, but the series from the creator of Hellsing Ultimate has its own style entirely. Drifters is set in an interesting universe where valiant warriors from Earth are pulled into a new world with the task of helping the Drifters in their war against the Ends. Shimazu Toyohisa, one of the main characters from the series, is doing his best in a wild new world.

Zero Season 3 Banner displays all of the characters from the hit anime series.

A recurring problem isekai have is underemphasizing their supporting characters, but Re:Zero sets itself apart.

The humor in Drifters is aggressive, arrogant, and dark in the best way possible. Its humor is not for the faint of heart nor for someone who doesn't like a few curse words in their anime. One of the funniest moments in the series happens when Kanno Naoshi is summoned to the new world. He's cursing like a sailor in his new environment, trying to figure out what is going on hilariously.

Seasons 1

Even though it only has one season and a movie, No Game No Life is one of the most beloved isekai series. It stars Sora and Shiro, two expert gamers bored in their own world. They get invited to Disboard, a new world where everything is played for through games. Sora and Shiro couldn't have been happier, as they finally get to play their favorite games with real stakes on the line. Sora and Shiro are two of the smartest isekai protagonists. They're so much smarter than the people around them, they're always several steps ahead of everyone.

Their intelligence, nonchalant attitude, and overwhelming ambition make for a pretty funny combination. They're willing to take anyone on in a game, and they're comfortable enough to crack jokes while they do it. If they're not making fun of their opponents, they're making fun of Stephanie Dola, and unfortunately, a hilarious punchline to every joke.

While Overlord and KonoSuba are already funny shows, The Saga of Tanya the Evil and Re:Zero aren't, making their interactions even funnier.

Ainz Ooal Gown is one of the funniest characters in anime, and it's almost entirely by accident. He always puts on a brutal facade to keep his vicious persona up, but he's really just a clueless guy underneath. He doesn't know how to manage the Great Tomb of Nazarick, but his allies certainly think he does. Albedo, Demiurge, Sebas, and the rest of the smartest characters in Overlord truly see Ainz as a godlike being, and while his amazing abilities would agree with their perception, he really isn't.

Like Shadow from The Eminence in Shadow, Ainz will accidentally predict the future. He'll start a sentence without any idea where it's going, all for Demiurge to finish his plan for him, assuming that was Ainz's intention the entire time.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime is a solid isekai series that always has funny moments, no matter what the characters are up to. While the third season of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime was a weak point for such a good series, the first two seasons and the next that look to come are all worth watching. Rimuru Tempest is a simple slime who wants to change the world. He wants to unite humans and monsters and end the discrimination between the two. He's also trying to improve his current world by bringing ideas from his previous life over.

Like fellow funny isekai series KonoSuba, Slime has solid writing that gets a chuckle out of nowhere. Rimuru's relationship with Veldora, Shion, and eventually Hinata are all hilarious. Veldora just wants to read manga, Shion wants to cook wretched meals for Rimuru, and Hinata is more than excited that she gets to eat Karaage once again.

Character(s) Makoto , Tomoe , Mio , Emma , Rona , Beren , Toa , Rinon , the Goddess , Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto , Hazal , Louisa , Ranina , Patrick Rembrandt , Morris , Lime Latte , Aqua , Eris

Release Date July 7, 2021

Tsukimichi: Moonlit Fantasy is an awesome isekai series that never takes itself too seriously. Misumi Makoto was brought to a new world, but instead of being granted a powerful gift like most other isekai protagonists, he was called ugly by the very Goddess that brought him over. She took away his ability to speak to regular people and instead let him speak to monsters. It's a funny concept from the beginning that turns the normal isekai trope on its head.

Makoto quickly becomes one of the strongest characters in the series. When he's ambushed by Sofia Bulga and Lancer, he lets off a giant arrow that levels the surrounding landscape, one of the most broken powers in isekai anime history. He's so much stronger than everyone, bar the Goddess herself, it's laughable. People always underestimate Makoto, and with his absurdly broken powers, he's happy to make them regret it.

3 Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense

Bofuri

Bofuri: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, so I'll Max Out My Defense follows Kaede Honjou, who starts playing a VRMMORPG as Maple. Opting for maximum defense, she develops unique skills to overcome game challenges, making her an unexpected powerhouse.

Cast Kaede Hondo , Ruriko Noguchi , Saori Hayami , Noriaki Sugiyama , Satomi Sato , Miyuri Shimabukuro , Satomi Arai , Ai Kakuma

Character(s) Maple , Sally , Kasumi , Kuromu , Iz , Syrup , Kanade , May

Release Date January 8, 2020

Seasons 2

Creator(s) Yuumikan

Bofuri isn't a traditional isekai because main character Maple can leave the game when she wants, but the entire story does take place in an alternate world, and beyond that, it's hilarious. The concept alone is worth a laugh. Kaede Honjo has never played a game like NewWorld Online before, and she's scared of getting hurt. Instead of placing her stats evenly across her character, she only put them in defense, becoming an unkillable machine just a few episodes into the series.

Maple (Kaede's character's name) rarely takes even the slightest bit of damage throughout the series. Other players in NewWorld Online can only watch with their jaws on the floor as Maple takes on the strongest enemies without flinching. The best part is that she's completely unaware of her own strength. She's just having a good time with her friends, and becoming an accidental dominant force at the same time.

2 Eminence in Shadow

Animated By Nexus, Based On The Light Novel Series By Daisuke Aizawa & Tozai

The Eminence in Shadow (2022)

The Eminence in Shadow follows the story of Cid Kagenou, a recluse who reincarnates into a fantasy world and seeks to live a life of obscurity, but unwittingly becomes a legendary figure known as the Eminence in Shadow, feared by evil organizations and admired by the masses.

Cast Seiichiro Yamashita , Asami Seto , Inori Minase , Suzuko Mimori , Fairouz Ai

Release Date October 5, 2022

Seasons 1

The Eminence in Shadow is an exciting isekai series with an accidentally hilarious protagonist. Cid Kagenou just wants to be the titular Eminence in Shadow, defeating enemies while cloaked in mystery. Unfortunately, for Shadow, he keeps predicting the future. When his Seven Shadows want to listen to stories, he tries making things up to entertain them, but all of his stories end up being true. It's a hilarious coincidence that happens over and over again in the series, and it gets funnier every time.

Shadow is one of the most overpowered isekai protagonists around. He's so much stronger than most of his opponents he would rather play with them than fight them. Watching the enormous power gap between Shadow and whoever is foolish enough to fight him is always funny too. When Cid needs an alter ego to sneak into a tournament, he aptly names himself "Mundane Mann", letting the audience in on the joke while its being told.

Main Genre Adventure

Creator(s) Natsume Akatsuki

KonoSuba is ridiculously hilarious. It's so funny it's in a league of its own when it comes to comedy isekai series. KonoSuba reigns supreme because of its expert writing, phenomenal cast of characters, and one of the funniest main characters in anime in Satou Kazuma. Kazuma gets isekai'd to a new world, and he's given a choice to take any single thing with him. The Goddess Aqua, who offered this choice to Kazuma, did so rudely, causing the adventurer to choose her as his thing to bring with them.

Their relationship is a high point in the show. They fight like brother and sister, with neither looking to yield. When they're on the same side, they wreak hilarious havoc on the people around them. KonoSuba is filled with wacky characters that would rather pursue their own quirky interests than pursue the main quest, and that's about as funny as it gets.
